Hi all! Just had a quick question. Does applying ED increase one’s chances of being accepted to the honors program?
do you mean applying early action aka priority? Yes it does increase your chances, very much so. It’s significantly harder to get accepted into the university and the honors college if you apply regular decision
@artist03, actually, applying priority (there is no ED) does not increase chances of being accepted into honors but in fact is the only way you are eligible as an incoming freshman. Applying priority not only is required to be eligible for special programs, but it is also required to be considered for merit scholarships.
If you apply for regular decision, you will not be considered for either special programs nor merit money as an incoming freshman, despite stats.
If you should happen to chose regular decision you can apply for merit scholarships, after you matriculate, for the subsequent years. You can also apply to the honors program at the end of freshman year, and admission is based on availability, but only for the University Honors, which is the general program, not any specific themed honors program (such as EIP, ACES, etc). You may also apply for departmental honors, either going into sophomore or junior year, depending on the department.
I’m sorry, @artist03 , I completely forgot that you’re not eligible for the honors college if you apply regular decision. @maryversity is right, if you want to be considered for the honors college you HAVE to apply priority
Thank you @cammiekohl and @maryversity ! Do you think I have a chance of making it into the honors program w/ a 3.8 UW and 4.3 W GPA? I will have around 11 APs by the time I graduate.
@artist03 you definitely have a chance (as long as your SAT score is strong like your GPA) but the honors college puts as much stock into your resume/essay as they do your grades and test scores so make sure you work hard on the essay question too!
Edit: I see in your other thread that your SAT score is 1450/1600. That’s awesome! But no score guarantees an honors college invite so still make sure your other credentials are strong too (which they seem to be to me)
Thank you so much for your help! @cammiekohl
