UMiami Admissions Fall 2022

I don’t know if this matters but for the schools my daughter got accepted to (Minnesota, Tulane) she is NOT able to change her major through her portal. For the schools she got deferred from (Northeastern, Fordham) she IS able to change her major through her portal. Again, I don’t know if Miami as the same system, and these are 5 different school I’m talking about.

I just looked at last year’s thread and it looks like a lot of those who could change their major got in and those who couldn’t didn’t. I only looked at a few ppl, but that was the trend I picked up on. What do you think?

^^ Should add I am able to change mine. Hope its not just confirmation bias.

my brother had that - he was admitted ED1

also just had him check his portal…he can still change his major.

Wait so did your brother have the yellow message then it allowed him to change his major after?

I’m able to change my major, I come from a UM feeder school so I hope that’s a good sign?

Did she apply for Spring 2022? Why does it say that?

I honestly think it depends on the school. UNC I was rejected and I could change major, Purdue I was accepted and I could change major. Just two examples off the top of my head from the past few weeks.

My son’s portal says that as well. I’m confused too. Is that good or bad?

yes, and he can still change his major - I just had him go on and check

What are the stats of you all that can change your major? Do you think you are competitive for admission or are you on the lower end?

I submitted a 1460 SAT (34 ACT later on that they probably didn’t see) and am ranked 3rd in my class, FBLA state president, business owner, social media intern, TON of leadership and other involvement, varsity athlete…I think I’ll probably be deferred from UMiami or rejected partially because of financial aid, but I’ve already been accepted into schools with comparable acceptance rates (Richmond, Villanova, Hillsdale…even Notre Dame which is harder). Not that correlation implies causation but I think I’m a pretty strong candidate. Then again, admissions is random and I also didn’t submit financial aid in time which means I’m at a “distinct disadvantage” for admission, per their website.

What would be interesting to know is if the people getting the scholarship invites can change their major.

^^Just to clarify I’m not expecting to get in, just would think I have a decent shot albeit low in general

1530 SAT Feeder school rest of app is solid. I don’t think I’m at the lower end.

Do you have change major or no? I have change major

I do.

Im a scholarship candidate and can’t change my major.

I’m kinda thinking it means nothing. But, you just made me feel better that it’s not a bad sign at the least.

I wonder if it has something to do with your chosen major, that some schools froze it, and some left it open?
