We get that ! Mine is from Chicago and loves the Urban campuses as well. BUT if Cornell comes a knockin’,
It’s a no brainer lol
Btw, my D was never invited for an interview at Cornell. We had very low expectations. Good luck!
Well, the interview was like 15
Minutes when her others were like 30-45 minutes. They did not click, so it might not be a good thing. Who knows! We are not expecting much. Especially test optional. Thanks for the info!
My D was test optional tests were cancelled 7 times. She gave up.
Oh my! A little different this year though! We shall see. Probably a 1% chance so not zero! Lol
Can someone summarize what the housing crisis is? And are Fall 2022 freshmen guaranteed housing?
Please share any views/feedback on HPM program. My daughter has an offer for HPM and PRISM Honors program. We are considering it. Grateful for any experience regarding HPM.
I’ve been impressed by HPM because it seems that most schools are less interested in attracting pre-med students. HPM actually has clinical rotations and advising built in from day 1. But it all depends on different options that your daughter may have and what her goals are.
I think this article summarizes it best. Freshman are definitely guaranteed “on-campus” housing although that included the Thesis Hotel for many Spring starters. Also lots of parents weren’t happy with the answers they received from the housing department.

The article @dcortese posted will help to inform you.
The crisis has impact starting in year 2 for regular admits and potentially when starting in the spring as a first year.
UMiami is tearing down more traditional older dorms to build luxury style housing on campus. This is causing immediate impact during the construction process because of the reduction in housing units. The cost of off campus housing within reasonable proximity has skyrocketed at the same time.
Longer term, UMiami is replacing some of their more affordable on-campus units with higher end housing that is significantly more expensive. UMiami had one of the biggest differences in on campus housing costs and “experiences” I could find last year when looking at D21’s final options.
The Financial Aid packages at colleges almost always list the cheapest housing option on campus which may not be available after year 1, making it hard to budget for the future years.
Costs not posted yet for next year, but here is the current year:

Lakeside Village - currently available “market driven” units with amenities only accessible to residents.

Can someone summarize their financial aid package? Miami is still processing some of our documents but we want an idea of what type of financial aid they give.
Can anyone comment on how good the on-campus recruitment is for students interviewing for jobs, and are students getting good internships through the school?
Did anyone else who was waitlisted lose access to their applicant portal?
Run their net price calculator. It may come close if you do not have any “out of the ordinary things” - rentals, own a business, etc…
Did you get Merit awarded in the acceptance?
Between merit and need we were slightly under our EFC at UMiami.
Merit can be 0 to full, but full you would know by now. Can you see anything in the portal in the financial info about what they have awarded so far?
Need can include loans, work study, etc…
I still have access and was waitlisted
Never mind! Able to access portal while waitlisted
D got good merit but just so so need based aid, after federal loans we were still a good bit over EFC.
If a student accepts his place now and puts in for housing, do you think it’s too late to still get first choice housing? Have most kids committed by now?
Does anyone know when housing closes?
“Priority” housing closes May 15, I think.
