UMich Ann Arbor Class of 2021 RD

@SushiNinj Michigan’s acceptance rate was 65% 20 years ago so the in state acceptance rate is actually decreasing she ended up choosing MSU because Berkeley and UCLA are so expensive oos. It’s interesting because my English teacher who went to Michigan 20-30 years ago said that even then there was a large oos presence she had roommates from new York, China,Italy, etc. I guess Michigan has always had a long history of oos students unlike other public elites

The 2016 OOS acceptance rate of 24.3% was quoted above. FYI, UM expanded the class size in 2016. In 2015, the OOS acceptance rate was 21%. The expansion helped the acceptance rate temporarily. Otherwise, UM would be in the teens for OOS applicants. I am sure it will get there soon even with the larger class size.

@SushiNinj It’s actually harder to get into UCLA and UC Berkley in state. California students are the ones that get the short stick in state and out of state acceptance wise. (Last year UCLA in state was 18% and out of state was around 22%)

@lexisg09 interesting. Thank you for the info. I know Berkeley still shows a positive for IS to OOS acceptances (20.3% IS to 16.5% OOS for the latest data i can find), but you are correct on UCLA. No doubt because of the extreme number of applications UCLA receives. Over 100,000 this year i heard. I admit i assumed UCLA was about the same as Berkeley in percentages having been familiar with Berkeley’s data. My mistake. Thank you for the correction.

@Eeeee127 yeah, unfortunately I’m old enough to remember 20-30 years ago too (closer to 30, lol). UofM wasn’t as stressful to get into then. You still had to be very intelligent and ambitious, but the application pool wasn’t as large.

And yes, your English teacher is correct. There has always been a strong presence of OOS and international students at the university, at least in my lifetime. It continues to grow.

My post above was more about UofM’s commitment to IS students than the absolute percentages. The percentages may change, but the overall opportunity for IS students doesn’t. The school has been very fair to IS students who meet their requirements. It’s a win-win for all.

It’s just interesting to me that we are seeing a reverse trend in IS applications. The natural assumption is they would be increasing because the overall number of applications has been, but it seems the opposite is true.

If I haven’t received a decision yet, does that mean I’m getting rejected/waitlisted? I applied on Feb 1st.

My DS have applied in October and did not receive decision. 36 ACT/4.0 UW GPA, with 11AP’s. Got into WashU, Vandy and JHU. But looks like It will reject from UMich

wait what? if we haven’t heard back yet it’s likely a rejection? lol uh oh.

Let’s be brave to face any result! Our future cannot be simply defined by any school.

So much conjecture. I’m not very happy with how Michigan has handled the decision making process -_-

why is everyone assuming that if you haven’t heard back yet then you’ve been rejected? Threads from previous years have shown that a number of applicants were accepted on March 31st/April 1st.

Good luck to you all!

I would assume UMich accepts people they definitely want first, then makes tough decisions among the rest, which would suggest the likelihood of acceptance drops over time. But then there’s the factors of when you applied and the interviews, so I guess nobody here really knows how they handle this process.

I don’t even know why I still care. My last rejection. Hope hurts.

Does anyone know roughly when you will receive your financial aid package if you are accepted?

Did the univ. announce the date and time for the results

@rsmith0208 No, they just said that you will recieve your decision by Early April. You could recieve it sooner than that. I know some people who got accepted last week.

Have most people gotten their results back? I haven’t gotten my decision yet

Nah. I think they come out either today or tomorrow, based on previous years’ release dates.

Does anyone know around what time Wolverine Access updates with new decisions?
