Excellent! Sounds like she really nailed it. I am really hopeful she gets admitted.
Most of the time, along with their decisions and stats, CC posters also post their in-state versus OOS status as well.
And yes, OOS stats skew stronger than instate. Instate may get 11,000 apps. OOS gets the other 70,000 apps.
Sorry for your D. If I recall, at least for last year (not sure about this year), while they say theyâre TO, they strongly encourage a test score be sent, even if itâs your PSAT. So, that may have been one big difference in why your son was accepted and his friend not. If they still are encouraging that info, that may also be something that may be impacting your daughterâs application but she is probably better off not sending in the 27 and focusing on other things she can add to the UM community!!
Last year my son heard on Friday, March 26. It was the last big wave of acceptances. After that (other than Ross maybe having a notification date) I believe anything else was all rejections.
There were a few people here or there that were accepted in between the January date and that March 26 date in much smaller waves.
Also, for people who have been saying that Valedictorians donât tend to go to UM. Our OOS school tends to be a feeder to UM. Both our weighted and UW valedictorians were accepted. One is attending and one is not. I think yield is important to them but also trying to figure out who might attend and who wonât.
There are some really smart kids in this yearâs freshman class. Many who in a normal non covid year in the past that may have gone to an Ivy, or Stanford or one of the UCs but didnât get in. On the flip side there are also many who are probably at Michigan who never thought they wouldâve ever had a shot to get in if it werenât for Covid. I say that only based on the number of parents and kids I have seen asking for tutors and what sounds like a lack of preparation for college or just for Michigan. Having older students in challenging university programs where on occasion tutors are sought after, it is nothing like on the scale with the freshman at UM so my point is, wherever kids go, it really needs to be about fit and not necessarily about the best school in their eyes they get into, because the best school or most prestigious school may absolutely not be the best school for them!!
From things I hear I donât think they received the memo!!
You definitely donât need Ross to do great things or wind up in business. Not only that, if in Ross you canât specialize. You only get your degree in Business Administration anyway so instead why not do Econ and get a minor or double major? Definitely more opportunities like that than one dimensional in Ross. Jobs are pretty much the same if in Econ.
Yep, Iâve seen it before. While last yearâs class had a 55/45 imbalance between men and women, in terms of the #'s accepted, UCLAâs was 60/40 in favor of women. I believe thatâs been a national trend:

Congrats! My son will be applying to stamps next year! Any portfolio tips?
The other issue for this yearâs freshman class, though, is that they had two significantly interrupted years of high school. I wouldnât be surprised if freshmen everywhere are a little behind previous freshman classes. The demand for tutors and remediation might be higher at all colleges this year because the class of 2025 was online for the bulk the senior year and an important portion of their junior year.
I only have one current college student, so I canât compare, but it makes sense that this class at all colleges might be starting a bit in the hole.
My daughter had similar stats ( lower act of 32) and third generation alumni. Grandfather teaches at u of m. She ended up waitlisted, didnât accept waitlist because she was salty lol and is at u of w Madison and extremely happy. So sorry- I understand your disappointment. But hang in there you will land where you should.
If I didnât have 3 kids in college at the same time all in different colleges (all highly regarded schools), I would probably agree with that assessment, but itâs off the charts at Michigan. Definitely not as bad as first semester yet but that may be because many classes havenât had midterms yet. Tutor requests are definitely beginning in some of the EECS lower level courses though.
Omg, who canât blame her for being salty about that? How does her grandfather feel?
Who do her parents cheer for now? UM or UW? Lol
So awesome she found a happy place!!
Totally agree. Most economic kids were snatched up pretty early last year. But some kids want to have the Business school shirt and handshake. There could be advantages but I laugh when I hear Ross and non Ross kids competing for the same internships and jobsâŠ
Michigan has some amazing minors. Both of my sons minors spoke directly to his current job. Could not of been more perfect. Glad to hear your sonâs doing well. That long ride doesnât seem so bad now⊠LolâŠ
I was wondering if it possible to double major in Econ if starting outside of LAS? My kid will be an incoming sport management major but is looking to possibly add Economics or Business as a second major if possible to maximize potential career options.

Wow you are quick !
I knew the name, so that made it easier.
My sonâs portal is exactly the same as yours once he sent in his LOCI.
Hey all. I was someone that applied to UMich Early Action and recently heard that I got deferred. I was pretty surprised by this given that my stats surpass their averages pretty significantly; of course, GPA and SAT arenât the only things that matter anymore. What was also surprising is that a lot of my friends, all of whom have very impressive resumes as well, also got deferred which may indicate some trend there. Iâm just curious if anyone else has heard about Michigan deferring a lot of high-stat out of state applicants.
I also just sent in my LOCI earlier today.
Itâs been discussed, oh, I donât know, maybe dozens of times in this thread alone and probably other most college EA threads on CC. Itâs a VERY popular topic.
Can you share your schoolâs Naviance stats in terms of kids applied and accepted so far this year and how that compares to last year or two? Please.
General trend is a lot of schools are way down on acceptances this year (so far) and way up on postponements. (So far so far)
