My understanding was if you did not apply to Ross as a preferred admit out of high school, you could not double major.
For this reason, DD22 would decline her LSA offer if not accepted into Ross.
Question - if D22 is waitlisted at Ross, and does not hear by the May 1? deadline, will she keep her LSA offer? Only makes sense that she can because of spot on waitlist.
That was my sonâs hope/plan - to major in sport management and double in business.
I posted this earlier but he was postponed Kinesiology - so we will see what happens!
My son doesnât want to submit the LOCI. Actually, he was about to do it on the fly ON HIS PHONE and I stopped him and said he needed to put some thought into it. He said he wasnât going to do it and he âdidnât care.â I know that he was upset about being postponed and if he were to get in he would certainly consider attending. The problem is we havenât visited or really explored the school in depth so he doesnât really have anything meaningful to say-I told him we would visit if he got in and if it was doable financially - I actually had initially discouraged him from applying at all because I know that Michigan is not great for financial aid, but then I said he could apply and we would see what happens. Do you think he will be at a disadvantage by not submitting?
Yes, not submitting a LOCI will be a disadvantage. But, if he truly doesnât care, itâs perfectly fine for him to move on. And Michigan isnât great for financial aid for OOS applicants.
My anecdote from a few cycles ago is that the high stats kids at my Dâs school (OOS and all applied for engineering) who didnât submit a LOCI, were all wait listed and then withdrew their applications.
So, conventional wisdom is that submitting a LOCI is highly recommended as itâs a chance to provide updates (if any) that may strengthen your candidacy + express your desire to enroll in the school.
However, @srparent15âs post above (#3769) about their sonâs review of his application file indicates there was no mention of postponement or LOCI in his file, so not sure how it factors in at UMich. Additionally, this weekend my daughter spoke to a past year senior from her school who had been postponed at UMich last year. She had another acceptance that was more desirable to her and decided not to pursue UMich and didnât submit a LOCI. Nevertheless, she did get accepted in one of the March waves (she didnât enroll).
So, in summary: if your son can submit his LOCI he should but if he doesnât it may not be a deal breaker.
He doesnât really ânot careâ - he was just being pissy. Of course he wants to get in and would definitely consider attending. I canât make him write the letter though.
I also think you just described the perfect theme for his submission.
I am excited about Michigan. But the postponement is causing me stress. I will need financial aid and I am worried that the postponement will delay all of the timing of my process. I had to beg my mom to let me apply to Michigan originally because the cost is obviously significant for our family. But itâs my dream school and I am still hopeful that it all comes together.
You donât need to visit - the website is a font of information and he can get a good feel for academics or student groups he wants to join. Why did he apply in the first place? What got him excited versus the other colleges? Thatâs a good place to start.
I would encourage him to submit but leave it at that. Itâs his future at the end of the day. My D said she isnât doing one and I decided it wasnât a battle I was going to engage in. She doesnât feel like she has anything of value to add.
Now that this is our familyâs second time going through this, I realize how important it is for kids to withdraw their applications if theyâve decided that school isnât a match for them for one reason or another. That said, Iâm not sure many do. With so many deferrals this year (including us), I hope the college counselors remind applicants to do this as soon as they know the fit isnât right.
You think you are going to scare me away with a postponement? I know they say our generation has silver spoons and no resiliency, but I have been stumbling for years. And this postponement just makes me want it more.
