Theyâve been using this for years. They have enough data by know to have modeled the predictive value of the essay.

But the common app and no tests massively changed the algorithm. The average kid is now applying to 14 schools up from 6.
They still have more than enough data to understand its predictive value.
And by the way, schools are pretty happy with the increase in apps and thus app fees. Yield on acceptances is what they want to continue to manage.
By the way, this belongs in the Michigan thread because I love the way the big state schools do it. Yes, they play the deferral game a little, but in general, they look at the apps and let the numbers fall where they may. The game that Tulane, Richmond, Villanova, etc etc are playing is almost funny. They reject the best students because they donât think they will get them and then go after the next batch based on âdemonstrated interestâ - but when that falls down and is no longer an accurate predictor because every kid is playing the âfake interestâ game these schools are in big trouble.

Michigan doesnât want to hear that. Itâs clichĂ©. They want to know how you will be an active participant on their campus. Never have to say itâs your number 1.

Thanks so much. I think I did this when I first submitted my app so I have had access to all of this but are people able to access canvas and create a umich email or just that one person? That I am not able to do.
The theory is that deep in the system they have already entered some basic info for some students. I can not get to info. And no one knows if it is relevant or if it is ALL applications.
