Im definitely not counting on the MIT thing… I was just thrilled that they deferred me! But I agree with you about that one… Theres no way I could pass up going there even if it costs 50k/yr

For ChemE I too would go with Wisky or Minnehaha. They are both excellent in this area and both schools are also located in cool cities.

I have to agree with Jshain. I’ve heard that at least a half dozen times at presentations for highly selective schools.

My son is OOS and got in EA at UMich Engineering taking all the top classes with all A’s. His SAT is in line with MK13Ball’s ACT and has all the other things “required” these days. He too was deferred by MIT. He thought he had done all he could, but it turns out finding a place to have performed a couple of years of Research along with all of his summer ECs was also necessary…

I heard they admitted around 70% of their EA applicants last year but only took around 55% this year.

So either they were more selective this year, or maybe they took the same number of students but just had a lot more applications with the Common App.

More applications + Same number of spots = More selective

55% sounds a little high. I heard that there were 17,000 applicants. 55% of those would mean that 9,000 were admitted. That seems a little high considering that Michigan will only accept 13,500 or so applicants in total. That means that of the 17,000 or so RD applicants, Michigan will only be able to accept 4,500. That’s like 25%

It seems interesting how UMich has more EA applicants than Yale. :)

Yes, but then again, Michigan accepts 7,000-9,000 of those applicants, compared to Yale’s 1,000!

^Alexandre, I would expect you out of anyone to not use numbers just thrown out there with no validation. I would bet that the EA rate this year was around 35%. It will be interesting to see what happens RD.

Alexandre said it, that’s all the verification you need

Well it looks like he only said it cause somebody said they accepted 55% which would be 7-9k.

That’s quite right eziamm, I do not have exact figures on the number of EA applicants admitted. Michigan does not release such information.
