UMich vs UIUC vs UWMadison vs Purdue for Nuclear engineering

Any opinions on which school might be the best for undergrad Nuclear Engineering? Also looking to find out which might be more heavily recruited from?

Michigan of course.

^^^^^^This is what happens when your computer sticks!

Michigan of course.

Assuming cost is not a concern, Michigan is best.

I don’t know if any ranking exits for nuclear engineering specifically, but in the field of Engineering Physics/Engineering Science UIUC is #1, Michigan is #8. Penn State is the only other Big 10 school ranked at #10. Your best bet is probably to ask someone in an organization where you want to work where they recruit new hires. All of the schools you mention have good engineering programs.

There is a ranking for graduate nuclear engineering; Michigan is usually one or two.

You might also want to look at bio and bio mechanical engineering rankings to get a clue…are you interested in nuclear engineering as a pre-med program?

NuclearHopeful asked what would be the best school for “undergrad nuclear engineering” correct? I would choose depending on finances to be honest since all these schools appear to have strong engineering programs.

^^^^^That’s true. It’s not like the OP is looking at applying to some middling program like, for example, Duke.

I don’t attend Duke rjkofnovi and for the last time I’m not who you think I am. What is your beef with this particular school? Duke doesn’t even offer Nuclear Engineering in the first place although its Nuclear Physics graduate program is #6 in the country according to the USNWR list that GoBlue81 alluded to above.

Stop making your alma mater look bad by being insecure.

Sure goldenennisthemenaceboy. You virtually only post on this forum using this screen name, usually to disparage Michigan in some not too sublte way. Your credibility is shot and the only person you are fooling is yourself.

I am not looking to go into nuclear for pre-med. I appreciate everyone taking the time to answer the question. I had seen the graduate rankings, but I am interested in what would be best for my undergraduate so I really appreciate the opinions. Ennisthemenace, your comment about choosing based upon finances is noted. UIUC would be my least expensive option. Not sure the increased tuition at the other schools is worth it in the long run.

If money is a real concern, then I say go for UIUC. But if it is only a mild concern, I recommend Michigan. A difference of 10 spots in the ranking of overall institutions, or in popular majors like Econ or Political Science, is insignificant. But the difference between #1 and #10 in an unusual field like Nuclear Engineering is very significant.
