UMich vs Vandy vs UVA vs Emory vs BC

Hi Everyone,

I was just recently admitted to the following schools, and I am having a difficult time making a decision:

  • University of Michigan (Ross pre-admit)
  • Vanderbilt (Arts and Sciences Econ Major)
  • UVA (Arts and Sciences Econ Major, would apply to McIntire)
  • Boston College (Carroll)
  • Emory (Arts and Scienes Econ Major, would apply to Guizetta)

I would like to study either economics or business in college (I have no preference in terms of doing an undergrad business program vs majoring in econ) and eventually pursue a job in finance on Wall Street. Despite their differences, I felt comfortable at all of these schools when visiting, and I do not favor one school over another in terms of its campus and student life. Additinally, after accounting for fiancial aid packages, all of these schools would cost me roughly the same. So my question is which of these options would provide me the best opportunities to land a job on Wall Street upon graduation? Also, I was admitted to NYU (Stern), but I did not like the campus when visiting (too urban for me), so unless it is significantly better than my other options, I would prefer not to attend.

Thanks for your help!

Since you said you didn’t like Stern which would be the best option for finance / Wall Street, I would say Michigan & UVA should be the main schools on your list you should look into

Ross & UVA are both excellent choices for finance placement and both do very well and are recruited pretty heavily

Since you have been pre-admitted to Ross, I would go there. Stern is also excellent (not better than Ross), as is McIntire (also not better than Ross), but you said that you did not particularly like NYU/Stern, and McIntire is not a sure bet since you must apply there at the end of Sophomore year. Vanderbilt, BC/Carroll and Emory/Goizueta are not as potent as McIntire, Ross, Stern when it comes to Wall Street placement.

I would say stern first but if not then ross

Ross, hands down.
