Anyone know what was the percentage acceptance in EA last year? If you have data on percentage acceptance for EA out of state applications that would be great.
^^ @viveklego UM has severely cut back on EA admissions. My believe you’ll need to be at the top of their applicant pool to have a chance of being admitted oos ea. You can get a sense of this by reading last year’s EA thread.
I don’t believe you’ll find hard statistics on EA admissions.
@viveklego When I was researching that question a few months ago, I stumbled upon an MLive article that stated that the EA acceptance rate for 2015 was 42%. I also saw another article that said this figure was in the low 40s. I can’t find either of these two articles now to back up these facts though, so I guess you shouldn’t trust me.
are you sure that wasn’t the number for in-state?

@jt1216 that’s definitely wrong. i think @quietdesperation is correct
@quietdesperation @guitar321 Yea that’s exactly what article it was, my bad. Back then, I was researching both in-state & early action acceptance rates as both would help me since I applied EA and am an in-state student. I got confused as to which rate I found and which one I didn’t. Therefore, it does seem that Michigan’s EA acceptance rate is not published since I couldn’t find it back then or now. Sorry @viveklego
np, good luck to you! We’ll be making the 10 hour(!) ride to visit my S for parents weekend and my D may attend an info session (she’s already seen the campus). If we attend, I’ll ask the question.
Hoping for LSA!!

Yeah, did you see on their website how they’re getting rid of regular admission. I got confused and emailed the admissions office and they said it was true, only way for 2017 seniors to get in is through preferred admission.
Did anyone receive invite for HAIL interview?
@educationfan I just did today. I started a thread earlier today hoping to gain more insight on it here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-michigan-ann-arbor/1932850-what-really-is-the-umich-engineering-hail-interview.html#latest
@educationfan I did too. did not everybody who applied EA receive an invite?
@cali14379 Nooo. I know about 20+ kids that applied the same day I applied or before. Of these people, I only know about 4 that got one. Plus, I think it’s only for engineering.
I found this on last year’s thread. Quite helpful!
Hello prospective Michigan applicants!
I just finished my HAIL interview a few minutes ago, so I’m going to share a bit of my experiences for anyone else who will have an interview with the school in the coming days.
The interview I had was less of an “interview” and more of an informal conversation with an alumni. It lasted pretty long (1 hr. 14 min. for me), but it was a pretty good experience. I got to know more about the school, and the school got to learn more about me. Just remember to not sweat it too much; it’s just an informal interview and will have no negative impact on your application!
Here are some of the questions that I was asked:
(1) Why U of M?
(2) Why are you interested in your intended major?
(3) What other schools have you applied to/will apply to in the future?
(4) What do you hope to bring to the U of M community?
(5) What do you hope to get out of college?
(6) If you had to tell something about yourself to the admissions officers right now, what would you say? (This should be a short answer)
(7) What was your favorite high school memory?
(8) What was your favorite class? Your least favorite class?
(9) What are some of your extracurricular activities?
(10) What are some of your leadership skills?
(11) How do you spend your free time? What are some of your hobbies?
(12) Do you have any siblings? What role do they play in your life?
(13) Is there anything else that you would like to tell us?
Last but not least, remember to have some questions to ask the interviewer at the end of the interview. This is the perfect opportunity to learn more about the school! All in all, this interview is an opportunity for you to get to know the school better, so don’t waste it! In the end, the conversation you have should be a memorable and fun experience (and good practice for any interview that you will have in the future).
hey, I posted in separate thread, but I used online chat to speak to someone in admissions, looks like UM is planning to take half the class from ea round.
I was told there was no interview option, what is this Hail interview?
@2017BBGH It’s for engineering.
HAIL interviews are scheduled only for the College of Engineering applicants.
Are you saying that being invited to HAIL interview means that the applicant has a good chance being accepted during EA?
can we submit research supplements through michigan’s portal or nah?
