UMN housing

Registered for housing at March 1 LLC deadline. When will I learn housing assignment? Registering this late, do I risk being assigned to St Paul campus housing?

If I remember correctly, my son didn’t find out his housing information until July. I wouldn’t worry about being assigned to St. Paul as you did meet the deadline. You might not get the dorm you want, however. Good luck.

I have questions here too.
I had not intended to attend UMN but I just sent in my enrollment deposit today. I have have yet to start on my housing application. I will get that done within these 2 days. Somehow, the application is not loading!

So I’m screwed, aren’t I? I would get the “worst” dorm that most people don’t want.

I have already read through a lot of thread and looked over the dorms, but I’m still soooo confused!!

The differentiations between East Bank, West Bank and St. Paul?
Closest to freshman classes? I am currently in CSE, but I will be doing internal transfer to Carlson. (hopefully)
Lively, but not 24/7 party. Moderation, which is what a lot of people prefer.
NEED GOOD FOOD. NEED GOOD FACILITIES. AC preferred.
Need conveniency, access to most things, hopefully.

These dorms are so hard to choose from ! >__<

I very much appreciate you guy’s help

I had a friend that registered in February last year, and he still ended up on the St. Paul campus (Bailey).

I don’t know enough to help you out with the dorm info though.

Here is a link to a comparison chart of amenities within the dorms: https://www.housing.umn.edu/halls/features

This is from the website:

Residence Halls
Bailey Hall
Centennial Hall (SuperBlock)
Comstock Hall
Frontier Hall (SuperBlock, incoming first-year students)
Middlebrook Hall
Pioneer Hall (SuperBlock, incoming first-year students)
Sanford Hall
17th Avenue Hall
Territorial Hall (SuperBlock, incoming first-year students)

Apartment Buildings
University Village
Roy Wilkins Hall
Mark G. Yudof Hall

A lot of freshmen want to live in the superblock because they’ll be with many other freshmen and it’s easy to get to know other new students.

So it’s almost a given that I will end up in Bailey.

What’s so bad about St. Paul campus? I hear that it’s not as lively and modern there. That’s all.

My first choice would actually be the apartments because I want a full sized kitchen and opt out the meal plan. Although, it’s probably filled up. I’m still gonna give it a shot, if by many people drop out from that.

I don’t think there’s anything bad about the St. Paul campus, it’s just a little less convenient if all of your classes are on the Minneapolis campus since you have to take the bus/shuttle every day (or drive if you have a car, I suppose).

I just talked to another mom yesterday and last year her son was assigned to the University Apartments. I have heard other freshman getting assigned to housing apartments too so this might happen to you. The upside, it’s apartments! The downside, it costs more!!! I have also heard where they have put beds (3 or 4) in the dorm “lounges” temporarily until room could be found in a normal double. Housing gets assigned in mid-summer. Don’t worry about it too much…it will work out wherever you are!
