Unable to prove florida residency (born & raised) in florida

Hello everyone

I have the biggest problem, and I've been searching all over the internet and calling everywhere I possibly can to find a way to fix this problem. I really hope someone here can help me.

I am having A huge problem proving Florida Residency in order to get in-state tuition.

I am 28 years old and have been out of work for over a year.

I don't have a vehicle and haven't had one for over a year. So that means I don't Have a vehicles
registration.

I have never voted or ever had a voters card.

I have been living with my mom (sad I know) for the past few years. And all the utility bills are in her name.

according to florida statues Required Documentation - Florida Residency for Tuition Purposes - Miami Dade College

I have absolutely No way of proving I've been in florida the last 12 months.

I was born in florida and lived here my whole life.

The only thing I have that I know of, is and ID card.

I will not be able to afford to take classes at mdc if I have to go as a non-resident student, which would be ridiculous in the first place since I've been a florida resident since the day I was born.

The only possible solution I may have found is to be somehow declared dependent through my mom's income tax return. which she does claim me as a dependent. But I'm not sure they'll take accept that. today is saturday so I have to wait till monday to get an answer on this.

But I'm hoping someone here has some info that could help me prove my residency so that I can get in-state tuition, start college, and get my life back on track.

thanks in advance.

There’s probably some mechanism where you can get your neighbors to swear before a notary that you’ve been living with your mother (the colleges might want something a bit more independent than a statement from your mother or friends). Hopefully you’ve been outside and your neighbors have seen you around.

Also, get an id card (states issue these for folks who don’t drive), and register to vote. This won’t be the last time you’ll need to prove who you are.

yeah thanks for the help

If you’re 28, certainly you have filed tax returns in the past? or you collect unemployment or other government benefits?

Did you leave the state at any time since you were 18 to live or work? If not, I am sure there is a way. Florida is tough, but only to crack down on “cheaters” who want to claim residency but who were really not residents. While you may not be able to complete a residency form online, take what documentation you have (drivers license, high school transcript from a Florida HS, you bank account statements showing your home address over a few years.) I am sure there is a mechanism if you truly resided here. Also take income tax reports from the years you did work. For the years you did have a car, you can go to the DMV and get a print out showing you were registered. Did you collect unemployment? Take any documentation. After that, GO REGISTER TO VOTE.

Try filing an affidavit?
