My major is undeclared but I intend to major in computer science. I have received a 5 on the AP Computer Science A exam and have recently tried to register for the class. I have been blocked from doing so because I have apparently not fulfilled the prerequisites even though I have. I have even been recommended to take the class when I took the CSE advisory exam. Is anyone else getting this problem?

Did you send in an e-mail to request clearance for the class? Apparently, everyone registered in that major at least has to do it because there has been a glitch in the system preventing people from getting into classes CSE 11 and CSE 91. I’m not sure if this applies to those not specifically in the major, but you could try sending an e-mail to ugradinfo@cs.ucsd.edu requesting clearance for CSE11. Include your PID as well.

Yes I did send an email and I managed to get in. However, now I have a different concern. First, I can’t enroll in a specific discussion period, and second upon enrolling in the class it said I already had credit (by virtue of my APCS A 5) and that I won’t get units or GPA from it.

Related question… I also sent an email to ugradinfo@cs.ucsd.edu but received an auto-reply that so-and-so is out of the office, and that I should send my email to ugradinfo@cs.ucsd.edu. That’s the address I sent my email to. Just wondering if the same thing happened to you, and that the email does get attention.

Yeah, it did, but I sent another email when the office hours were open and got a positive response.

Hey,
minh nguyen: Don’t worry about it. You’ll get credit, the system is just being glitchy and problematic right now but you will receive credit for the class, it will count toward your GPA, etc. If by about 2nd week of school it still says you won’t get credit, simply contact your CSE advisor and she will fix that notice for you. Ignore it for now.

There is no way to sign up for discussions in CSE 11, you simply enroll into the class/lecture itself. Discussions are attendance-only; in the case of CSE 11, they are not used in the enrollment process (you know how other classes make you sign up for the section, not the lecture? well, CSE 11 doesn’t work like that. it’s a lecture enrollment process, not a section enrollment process)

Thanks man!
