Unable to take SAT Subject Tests, HELP me with applying PLEASE!

The college I applied to requires me to take the SAT and 2 SAT Subject Tests. However, I am an international student from Poland and there are only 2 schools in the country that administer the test.

I was given misleading information at one of the centers - I was told that I could take all the tests in January. As it turned out later the next time I'll be able to take the subject tests in Poland is June, as they only administer the SAT in January. The college requires me to take the tests by the end of January.

I'm a mature student (have been out of high school for 3 years, worked, volunteered and traveled in the meantime) and have excellent grades on my IB diploma. Given my experience and past curriculum, I personally think that these two tests are too small a detail to jeopardize my future. I don't want to sound grandiose here, I just think these two tests wouldn't really change my application.

When I contacted the office they wrote: "If, for some reason, you feel that you are unable to meet our testing requirements by this time line, you should submit a letter of explanation to the admissions committee. With the understanding that you are willing to take the required tests, if possible, in the near future, this letter will be taken into account in the committee's evaluation of your application."

I would like to explain this situation to the comittee and I'm looking for a stronger argument than "The lady that works in the testing center in Warsaw is kinda incompetent, you know." Something that would almost allow me to sign the letter with "Lawyered, with Love."

Going to that school is my goal and dream, and I'd even be willing to wait for another year, I just want to take this shot if it could help me.

i had a similar issue with the TOEFL…
i think writing a letter explaining ur situation should be enough…additionally if the place u have applied to lets u interview, then u can explain the problem face to face aswell…
thats what i did…
i basically wrote to the dean of admissions and he was very helpful, then also mentioned the issue in the personal interview!

but what i think is that this will only work if u have very strong application…which it looks like u do! basically they will make the assumption that looking at ur IB scores, chances are u will score high…or offer u a conditional acceptance…

fact is that its not something u should worry about…just communicate…the adcoms are usually very helpful and understanding  have strong essays and make sure the rest of ur app is perfect…

good luck!

Blaming someone not known to the party with which you’re working for an error or miscommunication in a professional situation is an egregious mistake and cannot help your case. My sense from reading the manner in which you’ve asked the question is that your “attitude” will make it into any letter that you send. Take the deepest of breaths and avoid that.

Just the facts. Simply state that the tests are given annually, that the last opportunity to have taken them would have been in June 2012, that you (apparently?) decided to apply after that date and it is not possible for you to take the tests till June 2013. Make sure that these facts are true, and that a short one day trip outside of Poland would not get you over the scheduling issue. Ask the admissions representative if there is some alternate way for you to provide equivalent test results.

Good luck.

Is an ACT date in Poland or within travel distance early enough for the colleges? If so, take the ACT in place of the SAT Reasoning, and take the SAT Subject tests on the SAT date.

Some colleges and universities will accept GRE subject scores when it is not possible to take an SAT subject exam. Check locations and schedules for the GRE as well.
