@stevieleaks Congratulation! You sure are correct. It is never too late to go back to college. I did the same. At 32 I went back to college part time due to kids and a full time job. But guess what at 40 tears old I walked out of college with my Registered Nurse License. It was not easy but it took patience. For anybody down the line reading these threads go for your dreams.
My daughter was waitlisted and she was disappointed but I believe that if your door doesn’t open it is not meant to be. If anyone has any questions PM me or put the questions on this site. My son is currently a Junior this year and I pretty much can answer most things. Go Tar Heels!
@HSstudentNC I’m waiting for financial aid before enrolling, but if all works out I plan on applying for on campus housing. I’ve never gotten to dorm before since I go to community college and I want the experience
Same here. I am coming from an in-state community college, so I am new to the dorm experience as well. @AwkwardNewYorker
We have a facebook group for people looking to meet new friends, roommates, and plenty more for their first semester at UNC.
Unfortunately, CConfidential won’t let me include a hyperlink to the group, but you can search it as ‘UNC Transfer Students - 2018’ or copy this link into your browser:
facebook. com/groups/1806918779614089
Good luck, and congrats guys!
CONGRATS EVERYONE! So excited to meet y’all during the Transfers reception. If y’all have any student-based questions or just want a friend, I’d be happy to help out! Just e-mail me at dalediao07@gmail.com (I used my UNC e-mail once and it blew up lol).
Welcome to Carolina!
^lol should’ve mentioned that I’m a current UNC student who transferred two years ago.
Anyone else requesting to meet with an advisor to aid with registering for courses?
I don’t have an advisor assigned to me yet, so I’m not sure who to contact about that.
@laurencewithau Hi! Thanks for reaching out to welcome us! When is the transfer reception??
@HSstudentNC You don’t have to use a specific advisor. Just an advisor that deals with your major. If you Google UNC advisors you can make an appt right online.
We are required to go to one of the orientations, one is in early June and the other in mid July. https://nsfp.unc.edu/transfer-students/transfer-student-orientation/new-student-family-orientation-dates If that’s what you meant by the reception. @butfirstcoffee
Website is advising.unc.edu but you will need your onyen and password to make appt.
Anyone know what the deadline to commit is? I’m on mobile and don’t see it.
Waitlisted
Current Sophomore Computer Science major at UNC-Charlotte
High School GPA: 4.3
College GPA: 3.42 Will probably end with a 3.83 this semester
SAT/ACT: 1820/27
Strong Essays and 1 LOR
ECs: Delivery driver at Jimmy Johns and video intern with the school’s women’s basketball team during the summer.
I was expecting to get waitlisted tho
What was their acceptance rate of people that were waitlisted last year and what are my chances to get accepted off of it?
@AwkwardNewYorker which cc are you from? And what major? Can you post your stats
@nycnyc1 I go to Nassau Community college, even though I don’t live in Long Island I liked it better than some of the others around me. I’m an Econ major.
HS GPA: 78.67/100
College GPA: 3.88
Extracurriculars: I did this speaking partner thing where I met with a Chinese woman who was learning English one a week. I did that for one semester.
I had a job at a summer camp last summer.
I’ve worked at a movie theater since November.
I volunteer with the Mayors Alliance for NYC animals at adoption fairs a couple of times a year
I just looked at my application because I forgot what I wrote for it and realized that UNC was the one app where I wrote about MY DOG for the “Anything else you want us to know?” question. I love them for letting me in after that risky answer!
Waitlisted
Current school: OOS community college in CA
GPA: 3.77 with 57 completed credits and 12 in progress. If you include a previous (7 years ago) transcript from another college it brings it down to 3.33 combined GPA.
Non-traditional student at 27 with a unique path through college
Major: Anthropology
Applied: Junior transfer
High School GPA: 3.2 unweighted
After seeing other non-tradtional students accepted on here, I’m bummed I didn’t get in. My age is my biggest fear about attending a top university, so it feels good not to be alone.
I was expecting to get rejected, so I’m happy to be on the wait list. My essay could have been a lot better…maybe enough to make a the difference. My advice for future applicants: write your essay, and come back to it a month later to make revisions before submitting. I kind of procrastinated mine which may or may not have just cost me an acceptance!
Good luck to those on the wait list!
