UNC 2018 Transfer Student Thread

Hey guys! Congrats to everyone that got in, super excited for y’all! Unfortunately, I got denied this year. I was wondering if y’all could give me advice about who to call to ask about what I should do this year to increase my chances of getting in as a junior? I would shoot an email to admissions, but I’m afraid that it would take them too long to reply (I have to make a decision about next year and my schooling very soon). I have been following this thread since December and I just want to thank all of y’all for helping me through this process and I wish everyone the best of luck!

@kflan13 I’m not sure what you mean. Obviously admissions is the only one that can give you that information: (919) 966-3621

I would try calling them directly instead of emailing! @kflan13

I agree with @Daisy423 and @Vincent1997 . Calling the admissions office would help you find out why you may not have been accepted and what steps you could take to be admitted next time around.

Hi! I posted once back but I thought I would update.
I got accepted.

Stats: HS GPA: 4.5 (W)
College GPA: 4.0
ACT Score: 27 (super scored)
Lots of extra curricular’s in HS, clubs, organizations, volunteer work and leadership roles
Honors college of current (I guess former) University.
One recommendation letter from high school teacher
Also reached out to VP of admissions and had a conversation for like half an hour and emailed them around application time thanking them and was happy to hear from them soon. Kept communication up.
Wrote very personal, well balanced essay directly connected to UNC. Wrote one short answer for what I would offer UNC, and other one was personal.

I some questions though. Has anyone gotten their financial aid yet? And am I the only one having trouble logging into ConnectCarolina?
Also, for rooming, how exactly are we supposed to find one on our own? Does UNC offer a facebook page for finding someone to room with like they do for freshman? Thanks!

Congrats to everyone who got in! I hope the best for those who were waitlisted. And those who were rejected, next year is an option (if sophomore), but if not then life has something even greater waiting for you

Congrats on your acceptance! No one has their financial aid package yet as UNC releases them a few days to a week after we were accepted. I have some issues with Connect Carolina from time to time on my phone. Like it will take me to a sign out request when I want to login. I have no issues on Mac/Windows. You may have to clear cookies/cache in your web browser to fix issues. You will apply for housing after researching which option is best for you. Here is the housing site https://housing.unc.edu/housing/residence-halls and assignments are given on a first come first serve basis. You can check out the “UNC Transfer Students-2018” group on Facebook to find roommates, meet others in the transfer class etc. @USB999

@USB999 how did you reach out to the VP of admissions? Thank you to everyone who answered my question and sorry if I was unclear. What I was meaning to ask is who I should (if anyone) specifically reach out to to ask questions about admissions and my application. I understand I need to contact admissions, but I was wondering if maybe there was someone more specific I could contact. I just want to know what I can improve on when it comes to my application and what things I should focus on doing this following year in order to increase my chances of admission next year. The other major thing I want to ask is if transferring to another school next year (I really dislike the school I am at now, but that might change next year…I’m just a freshman and I know freshman year can sometimes be the worst year) will decrease my chances of getting into Carolina next year. Thanks again to everyone who answered my previous question, and to all the others who got rejected like me: use this as an incentive to improve for next year! Don’t give up if this one of your dreams (like me)!!!

Are any other non-traditional students moving closer to Chapel Hill? Currently, I am in Fayetteville and have toyed with the idea of moving into an apartment ‘on campus’ in Baity Hill.

@crunchymommy I am! I’m from Charlotte and am also older, I’m going to try and get on campus housing but otherwise I’ll have to find something nearby.

Does anyone know if we get an email when our financial aid and transfer credit report are available on CC?

Yes. You’ll be notified via your UNC email. @alliezannino

@Daisy423 @crunchymommy I’m non-trad! I don’t have kids, though. I do have a dog, so Baity is out for me on both counts.

@butfirstcoffee I want a dog soooo bad

I have a question that is worrying me right now lol. Is there a possibility for them to rescind my admission if my grades drop? Cause I have one class that I might get a C in (Physics). It’s only that class though.

@Blah1234 No they won’t but make sure it is not a C- because they might not accept that grade for a transfer credit especially if it is for your major.

@kflan13 just wanted to reach out and let you know that I transferred schools after my freshman year and got into UNC this year. Transferring schools should not hurt your chances for admissions. I had a legitimate reason for leaving and if you explain to them, they’ll be very understanding when taking it into consideration. I spun it in my application and explained how it showed that I was successful wherever I went and that it would be the same case at UNC

@HSstudentNC how do we make our email through CC?

@alliezannino you make it through onyen

My financial aid was semi-updated. It’s now alerting me select the aid year but it says it’s pending.

Should I go ahead and send my AP scores my they can consider those when doing my transfer credit report?
