Yeah I guess it was haha thanks man
Where can I find information about the business program? It’s a little bit confusing how to transfer into the school and which courses I should be taking once I transfer in. I am interested in finance.
You will not get accept directly to the business program, you have to complete one semester at UNC in order to get in professional school which includes Kenan–Flagler Business School. I am not sure what requirement you have to meet, but there’s definitely some risk.
Hey @Vincent1997, current UNC student here. More information about the business school is on the Kenan-flagler undergrad business page. The application to the business school is due in september and decisions come out in October. There are 5 pre reqs for the Business Major. Econ 101: Intro to Micro and Macro theory, BUSI 102: Financial Accounting, A calculus requirement(Stor 113 and other classes satisfy this), Stor 155: statistics, and Econ 410: Intermediate Microeconomics Theory. You can have a maximum of 1 prereq not completed at the time of application.
With all that being said, as a transfer student who came into UNC as a Pre-Business student, I would warn you that admission into the business school for any student is EXTREMELY COMPETITIVE. As a transfer student, your chances of getting into the B School are even much smaller. So come into UNC with an open mind, explore other majors at UNC that you might find an interest in and definitely have back up major while you’re planning. (The economics major, Management and Society are good backup majors to explore)
Good Luck and welcome to the University of National Champions lol
@Wilmarie I read that the admission rate is 50%. Is that correct? I have completed all the prerequisites, with exception of the economics class? I took micro and macro econ, so I am not sure how my credits will transfer. In any case, I should be fine, since I will be missing one class at most. Unfortunately, I am not interested in any majors and this internal transfer issue has been my main concern when it comes to UNC. Currently, I have a 4.0 with 62 credits at the end of the spring semester. I think that should be good enough to get in? What are the things that the business school requests on your application? SAT? High-school stuff? I appreciate your reply!
P.S. Would they ask for a midterm report for my UNC classes?
@Vincent1997 Did you get your transcript with what classes they are accepting from your completed credits? Yes that Business School is one of the best so competition is fierce. I would be very nervous if you didn’t have a back up major just in case you didn’t get in. If you only want that business school and no other major at UNC I don’t think I would risk it. Of course I am a parent talking now and this is the same advice I would give to my own child.
Maybe you can see an advisor before you commit to ask their opinion.
@Nurse001 But isn’t 50% admission pretty easy? I mean most the schools that I am applying to have 5-20% admission rates. I am definitely nervous, but if my choice is UNC or Fordham, I’d definitely prefer UNC.
Hey @Vincent1997 sorry, this is going to be a long reply. The most important factors are your gpa, specifically the grades you get for your pre reqs, your Application essays and your interview. The challenge for transfer students is that the admission process places more weight on classes taken at UNC than anywhere else, so if you completed most of your pre reqs at another college, there isn’t’ much for the admissions people to go by. However, with a 4.0, I might say that may improve your chances.
The business school only requests for your application essays and an online interview. (They have access to your transcript which would include the classes you transfered into UNC). I’m not aware that they ask for a midterm report.
If you’re projected graduation is 2020, then you should be working on your B school application in July-September, but aiming for admission into the Spring semester because you are required to spend at least one semester in UNC’s college of Arts and Sciences (Your initial Fall semester).
Ordinarily, I would tell you that since you have no interests in any other major, it’s extremely risky for you to chose UNC solely for the B School. However, UNC is also planning on expanding admissions for its undergraduate program.

So there are a lot of risks, but it’s certainly not impossible for you to get in. Hopefully, all of this can help you make a decision.
@Wilmarie Thanks so much! Really does help a lot.
Just a reminder for everyone. You can begin registering for classes tomorrow morning. You should look at what your degree requires and take classes based upon that. You should register even if you haven’t talked to an advisor yet because classes fill up quickly. Once you meet with the advisor (online or in person), you can fine tune your schedule as needed.
@HSstudentNC did you make your potential schedule yet?
I’m doing it now with the Schedule planner in Connect Carolina. @AwkwardNewYorker
If your tar heel tracker is working, use that. It will let you know if the classes you are signing up for will fill the requirements. It truly is a wonderful tool when registering. Good luck.
@Vincent1997 True what you said that if the only 2 schools are % to get in it is worth a shot. I do remember they are adding 200 extra spots I believe. I still would have a back up major just in case
Do you guys think only registering by may 15 is too late? I am still waiting for the majority of my school decisions. Also, could I pay my deposit, register classes and then just decide to go to a different school? Theoretically. How soon do you have to pay for classes.
Edit: I’ll get my most important decisions around May 1.
A lot of classes will be full by then most likely. And I’m not sure if you could pay deposit, register and then withdraw from the school before payment is due. The fall 2018 payment due dates aren’t up yet.
@HSstudentNC Where do you see your enrollment date? Have you been able to add the classes you want to your planner?
On the right side of the Connect Carolina page, under enrollment dates, it says I have an enrollment appointment/able to enroll beginning on April 12. Also, yes I’m able to add classes to my planner. If you haven’t accepted their offer of admission yet, you won’t be able to enroll or add classes to planner. @butfirstcoffee
Thank you!
Has anyone received their transfer credit report yet? I would really like to get mine soon so that I am aware of what classes I need to take based upon which classes I’ve taken will transfer.
