UNC 2018 Transfer Student Thread

For those who were wait listed do not feel bad I was as well for two years straight! I ended up going to ECU as a Biology major and currently have a 3.95 GPA for the year, and will be around a 3.98 at the end of the summer. If you do not get accepted, and go on to a different school. Prove them wrong that you should have been accepted and do well at different school. I am still sour about not getting in, but look at the end game. I may have had average grades at UNC, and never gotten into PA school next year.
I now sit with a top 5% of my class in Molecular Biology route. I have 8 x A’s and 1 x A- so far and plan to continue this path until graduation.

Whats even worse they offered me a paid internship this summer. What a slap in the face lol. Oh well I received other offers to Cornell, Duke, Wake Forest, and Georgia Tech.

@jtut2006 Sorry you did not get in but your grades are amazing. Congrats on PA school. My daughter was wait listed this year as incoming Sophomore. She currently attends ECU. She willl not apply again next year for UNC. She decided to give it one shot and move on. She is going to stay at ECU and do Study Abroad in Spring of 2019. IF she had gotten into UNC she would not be able to do study abroad due to the fact that all credits don’t transfer and she would have been slightly behind. So moral of story is if the door didn’t open then it is not your door and find something else to make you happy. Again congrats on PA school

Are any of y’all taking EDUC 301 in the fall?

I am. @Daisy423

I am!

Which section did y’all register for? I have EDUC-301-002 LEC (10201) Monday/Wednesday 1:25 pm to 2:40.

@butfirstcoffee @HSstudentNC do y’all know what the real purpose of it is? And how important it is to helping us transition? Like would I be missing out if I didn’t take it?

You may have already seen it, but the description is:
The Junior Transfer Seminar is a three credit hour course designed to help junior transfer students make a successful transition to Carolina. In a small-class environment, students are challenged to think critically about educational issues as they transition to a 4-year, research university. Through readings, videos, course activities, and research, students will explore questions such as: What is the value of higher education? What is intelligence and how does it develop? What is the role of habit in learning and success? What is happiness and what is the role of happiness in education? What does development look like among college-age students? What is the role of motivation in college success?

Participating in this seminar helps transfer students build a network of peers with the common experience of transferring
@Daisy423

I decided not to take it, because as I understand, the EE section can be fulfilled through internships. I feel like EE is a section that you’ll be able to complete at one point or another.

I still haven’t gotten my transfer credit report. I haven’t put down my deposit yet, but is that normal?

@HSstudentNC Yea I read all the descriptors although the last part w the questions is new to me. I’m just wondering how useful it would be. Is it more of a platform for making friends or to help people adjust to college life?

@transferguy163 Haven’t gotten mine yet either. Do you mean that you accepted admission but deferred payment until FA? Bc that shouldn’t matter, they just have a lot of people to go through is my guess.

When I talked with an advisor over the phone, she said it was a mixture of both. Probably more geared towards adjusting to UNC and making sure you put yourself in a position to be successful. She said there usually aren’t very many people in each section of EDUC 301, so you won’t really be meeting a lot of transfers through the class. She said it’s a nice class to fulfill the EE requirement and not stress over heavy course load… @Daisy423

Hey guys, I know that I am probably a little late, but I’ve finally made my decision. I’ll most likely attend UNC this fall, unless I magically get accepted by wharton, stern or dyson. I was wondering, if you guys have already applied for housing, or what your plans are?

Also, I have read that if I apply for housing, but decline later, that I have to pay a 50% cancellation fee. Is that true? I also found this: “We do not charge students a cancellation penalty if they do not attend Carolina.”

@Vincent1997 I was deciding between UNC and USC and Im almost certain I’m goig to UNC. The housing thing also confused me so I’m waiting till the priority deadline, May 15th to submit since anyone who submits it by that date has the same chance. I made my schedule and everything but still have till the 15th to withdraw charge free. The only other schoolnim waiting to hear from is a pretty big reach and since I was waitlisted to Vanderbilt I don’t know if I get in but I also don’t think I would go if I did.

Any independent AND out-of-state students get Carolina Covenant?

Can the people who got in please post their college/high school admission stats

Go to pages 41-45 of this thread. That’s where most people posted their stats after decisions @bigpapi1852

@butfirstcoffee Interested in this, too. I was at the information sessions and thought I heard that both independent AND OOS students were eligible for the Carolina Covenant. But I thought I read elsewhere that only dependent students were eligible? Not sure.

Anyone applying to any rlp programs?
