I am currently a freshman at Appalachian State, and I am studying Pre-professional chemistry. I am looking to transfer to UNC because I believe I would be happier there, the academics are significantly better (albeit harder), and the Lineburger Cancer Center opportunities for undergraduate research. NCSU is my backup school. I was wondering what my chances are at UNC and NC State for sophomore year transfer?

I am in the process of writing my essay (2nd draft) and except for a few corrections, people really think it is good. I mentioned the Lineburger center and made sure that it is very personal and explains how UNC would be the best school for my major. I plan on getting a letter of recommendation from my Chemistry 1101 and 1102 professor who knows me very well, and my seminar professor who is the administrator for the Department of Health Sciences.
I am extremely worried about my high school performance, as I am transferring as a sophomore, how much will this bring me down? Also, does UNC allow for students to retake the SAT after being in college?
