It’s definitely possible that they just did not want to reveal when decisions will be released but i doubt it will be today or tomorrow
Im not sure they ever tell people a specific date and time haha. Hopefully this week.
Can I ask did you submit you SAT score? I have the equivalent of a 1360 for ACT (30) and was on the fence about submitting it.
i submitted mine.
Yeah I really hope decisions comes out this week. This wait is agonizing lol
Yeah this is way worse than freshman decisions lmao
I had a 31 and a 1400 and did not submit. Seemed borderline 25th percentile for out of state, and my grades are very strong.
Someone recently told me there is no difference between OOS transfer applicants and in state applicants. Is this true? I know for sure there is for first year but not sure for transfer.
I never submitted any test scores. Just sent my grades. Grades were solid and I also had over 60 credits.
I see, thanks for info. I know you cant really answer this, but do you think me submitting a 30 act for in state was a bad idea?
I don’t think it was a bad idea. Its within average for UNC applications and from my understanding, it depends on when you took those standardized tests and how many credits you are transferring with.
Standardized test scores are more heavily considered in admission decisions if you are trying to transfer in as a sophomore for example, bc you have less college coursework grades for them to look at in comparison to a junior transfer (with 60+ hours). Plus, if you took the standardized tests back in high school, they become increasingly less relevant especially as a junior transfer. At that point they mainly just look at your performance in college coursework bc its much more relevant and a good measure of how you will likely do at UNC.
Either way, you should be fine! Don’t overthink it and stress yourself out.
I did submit it! I figured it can’t hurt because it’s in their middle 50 (barely) and also my high school GPA wasn’t the best so I was hoping the SAT score would make up for it a little bit.
There is absolutely a difference. UNC is a state public school that gears towards in-state students. They are required to have more IS students than OOS because of the charter they signed in NC back then to increase education in NC.
Undergraduate admission is the same in respect to the favor of state bias in their medical school as well. They usually always have 80% instate and 20% OOS to meet a quota. That is why students with the average in-state stats say they don’t have any chance as OOS students. Very unfortunate!
I agree with Soju, BK! It’s true that they won’t look at your scores heavily as they would if you were a sophomore transfer. They would just correlate to you being an outstanding student academically. It’s not a bad score at all! I knew a lot of friends with that same scores who got in first-year.
Thanks for the insight, greatly appreciated!
I remember either hearing or seeing something about how the quota doesn’t apply to transfers? I might be mistaken and honestly I feel confused over my chances as an OOS sophomore transfer app myself. I have a 1530 SAT and a 3.8 UGPA, but my high school GPA was pretty meh, so I don’t even know if I really have a chance
Honestly, no one really knows about how Carolina decides. It really depends on your essays and LOR since they are a holistic school. If you were top 10 in HS, I definitely see how you would gain an acceptance. Your GPA is above average and definitely your SAT as well. If it were up to me, I would definitely accept you based on those stats. However, you have to have a great essay that can speak about you and your future contributions to UNC. Work ethic > talent.
^I second this. @desicollege You definitely do have a good chance with those stats even if the quota does apply to transfer admissions. Your high school GPA will still be somewhat relevant since you are planning to transfer as a sophomore, but since your UGPA is really good it shows growth and that you can handle college coursework really well! So your essays will definitely be pretty big factor in highlighting your growth, goals and future contributions.
Thank you (and @SojuBoy), I do hope my essays reflect what I want to accomplish at Carolina so I’m keeping my fingers crossed!
I’m in the same boat. I didn’t do great in high school and I didn’t have a great act but I did good my last two years in college
