im applying to chapel hill for next fall. i am currently a freshman at GWU business school. i was wondering what would be ideal to get in? any important ec's or things to mention in my app?

? anyone know?

? guess not

I went to UNC for one year although I transferred out. I've heard that transfer admission is not as competitive as freshman admission and there is no distinction between in-state and OOS when it comes to transfer admission. So if you have good gpa (3.5ish?) don't you worry. But keep in mind that if you want to continue studying business at UNC, you should apply to business school in your second year. Btw why do you want to go to UNC? Just wondering.

i like the whole campus school, i got to GW and i dont feel like im really at college in a city. i like the area and the school spirit..i think its a good place to be for undergrad. Why did u transfer out?

I understand how you feel about GW campus. I've once been there and I don't think you will love the location unless you are a city person (no offense...). If you like the whole campus school and small college town, UNC will be a great match for you. For the school spirit, many students seem to be proud to be tar heels because of the basketball team. And academics at UNC is good and its study abroad program is top-notch in terms of variety and quality (last summer, I went to Japan to study Japanese language and culture). I guess UNC is a well-rounded school.

For me, UNC was not the best match. There is not a lot of diversity in the student body, because about 82% of students come from NC. It matters to me a lot because I'm an international student (from Korea), and I went to a private high school school in Massachusetts where 25% of students were international like me. Also, I was not used to suburban life. There is a mall nearby but I wanted more city life. Most important, I wanted to go to a school where students care more about academics (I'm not saying that students at UNC are slackers, but overall academic atmosphere). That's why I came to University of Chicago, where academics is challenging and I can enjoy city life.

Having attended two different schools, I realized that there is no absolutely better school than others but all schools are different. So, apply to schools that fit your interests and needs best.

thank you very much. did you ever think about going to duke?

Not at all. It's not because of the basketball rivalry (I'm still a UNC basketball fan), but I just never thought about going to Duke. When I was a senior in HS, I applied to schools mostly on the east coast. Actually, I almost chose GW over UNC, because I got into Elliott school, and I really wanted to study IR.

i think that UNC is much better of academic school than GW...do u agree?

That's a really hard question... I think it depends on what you want to study. UNC has a great undergraduate program in business, so it would be a good academic school for you.

honestly it's not like a degree from UNC will take you THAT much further than a degree from George Washington. I mean, to put it in perspective, if you're part of the relatively small population of people on this planet that has had the oppurtunity to pursue higher education, does it really matter if the school you attend is ranked 25th or 125th by some dumb magazine?
