-Was UNC your first choice? I’ve worked hard for four years to avoid it so no.
-Will you go? Heck no.
-What other EA schools did you get into? Michigan
Which one will you choose? Will it be UNC? I'm not 100% sure I'll go to Michigan, but I'm not going to UNC.
-Why yes, why no? I don’t want to go to school with 35 people from high school.
If no, what did the other schools have over UNC? Reputation, better undergrad b school, more prestigious, and few others from high school will go with me to my other options.
@markcal22 I definitely feel you. I feel like when you are IS, UNC isn’t ever really “the dream.” I go to a school where we send 15 kids a year to UNC out of a class of 55 students. I do not want to go there - at all. But I am fortunate that we have an IS school that is both reputable and prestigious. Hopefully you get into more attractive schools because I definitely feel the boat you are in.
-Was UNC your first choice? Not really, I mostly just applied so I would have a state school to go to if something fell through with the other school I’m looking in to.
-Will you go? If I got good enough scholarships, I probably would!
-What other EA schools did you get into? I applied and was accepted to Liberty University this summer. They have rolling admissions.
Which one will you choose? Will it be UNC? For me, it all comes down to the scholarships. Right now Liberty is my top choice because I could probably get a full tuition scholarship. However, if UNC offers me enough scholarship money I would love to go, especially since they’re a good school for my degree (journalism)
-Why yes, why no? UNC has a good reputation and it’s in state. But it clashes pretty heavily with my personal beliefs, and it’s more expensive than the other school I’m looking at.
If no, what did the other schools have over UNC? Liberty’s affordable, the housing is great, their honors program is nice, and I love the area that it’s in.
Can’t wait to hear if everyone got in! Only one more day.
Was UNC your first choice? No, but enough to choose it as one of my few EAs
-Will you go? It will all come down to $. UNC OOS Tuition is cheaper than other schools, but have gotten generous scholarships elsewhere that beat UNC’s lower tuition advantage…still like UNC though
-What other EA schools did you get into? Case Western, Northeastern, UMass Amherst, MIT (Deferred )
Which one will you choose? Will it be UNC? It will depend on $, and an honest discussion with my parents on what makes sense/is affordable. Have applied to several schools RD (Rensselaer, Carnegie, Tufts, McGill in Canada), and I am not in a hurry to commit...
-Why yes, why no? I need to visit UNC since I am from the Northeast, not sure about a yes or a no yet
If no, what did the other schools have over UNC? UNC is still in play
@annharv1 I do not know what your personal beliefs are, but I truly advise you to go to college with an open mind. Consider all perspectives of issues because everyone has unique and diverse set of experiences. Experiment in college. Find your limits and try new things. Do not be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone. I am not saying to go to college and try LSD and cocaine at the same time, while downing shots of tequila, I’m just saying college is a time to develop yourself, and simultaneously your beliefs. That is, in my opinion, what makes college great. Finally you are in a somewhat controlled environment where you have the independence to do whatever the heck you what.
@agc1998 I didn’t mean it in a negative tone. UNC is definitely a school that many people dream of going to. It’s a top notch school with amazing programs. But I think that when (at least in my case) every single decent student in your class gets into UNC, the school loses its spark. That coupled with the fact that a little over half of IS students get into UNC makes it lose its spark. It’s still a great school, regardless.
As someone who lives in Chapel Hill, I get what everyone’s saying. Personally my dream school is Davidson, but I realistically can’t afford it. I figure I’ll take advantage of in-state tuition and go to whatever grad school I want (hopefully).
@waitinandnervous have you applied to Davidson? They are need-blind if you are qualified. It’s my dream school too! I did an application called Quest-Bridge, but was not matched (pretty much like ED) and now I’m applying ED2
-Will you go? It is probably number 6-7 on my list right now. Decent scholarships might move it into genuine consideration.
-What other EA schools did you get into? U of Virginia, U of Michigan, Notre Dame, Georgetown, Elon
Which one will you choose? Will it be UNC? Probably none of them if my RD results are in my favor
-Why yes, why no? I think all of the schools I have gotten into so far are great schools and I am lucky to have the opportunity to attend them, but I have been in love with several NESCAC schools for 3 years.
If no, what did the other schools have over UNC? Location, Location, Location...and outstanding language programs.
@Nikos87
-Was UNC your first choice? Nope, I would say it’s last choice actually haha.
-Will you go? Probably not.
-What other EA schools did you get into? Deferred from UVA. Will hear back from Maryland in a few days.
Which one will you choose? Will it be UNC? It won’t be UNC.
-Why yes, why no? Not that in love with the school. Wouldn’t pay out of state tuition for it. Campus doesn’t jump out to me as super appealing via google images haha.
If no, what did the other schools have over UNC? Pretty much every other school I applied to hahaha.
@waddups that’s why I’m hesitant to go to UNC. I’m politically conservative, so I don’t think I’ll fit in well at all with most UNC students haha. Our local newspaper just had an article today about how UNC students are protesting the installment of Margaret Spellings on the board of public education for North Carolina, solely because she used to work on a Republican administration. So I’m not sure how well I’ll fit in at UNC
