@ISpy42 you are correct, the yield IS way higher for instate. UVA, a very similar schools, reports a 60% instate yield and a 24% out of state yield.
Does anyone know if there is a higher acceptance rate for EA than RD? I know some schools tend to have higher rates for ED than RD, but I was just wondering if there is any clear difference between EA and RD.
UNC accepted 6235 EA applicants last year - they had 17,100 EA applicants. I don’t see a breakdown by in-state/OOS.

@panther2016 Since it’s EA and not ED, I doubt it. There may be a slightly higher admit rate since early applicants generally have better stats than the regular pool
I talked to my college counselor this morning and she called the UNC-CH admissions office. They said the decisions were going to be out on Sunday, January 31st. Just thought I would let you all know what I heard today.
^^^^ And…here we go again
I don’t think the admissions office would be open on a Sunday to release the decisions…
Maybe they meant that the decisions would be out BY Sunday?
@wpsnick2015 that seems incredibly unlikely after yesterdays events and how UNC has handled it in the past. Are you sure they didn’t say decisions will be out BY the 31st?
Thanks @arw9816, this clarifies it perfectly:
Admission
31,953 applied
9,510 admitted (30% of all students applying; 52% of NC applicants; 19% of out-of-state applicants)
4,076 enrolled (43% of all students admitted; 60% of NC admits; 21% of out-of-state admits)
Those numbers look much better!
My money is on today.
That’s exactly what I was thinking, @unchopeful98
I remember UMich stated on their website that decisions would be posted BY December 24th, but everyone on CC predicted they would be released on December 18th. A lot of people from my school called UMich admissions asking them when decisions were being posted, and they said the same thing- that decisions would be posted on December 24th, but yet they were released December 18th. So I think UNC is doing the same thing if that makes any sense
So they have 24441 out of state apps, for about 4100*.18=738 oos spots. If they have an out of state yield of 21%, they will accept about 738/.21=3514 out of state applicants. 3514/2444= 14% acceptance rate for out of state students. Ugh…
To cry, or not to cry–that is the question. :’(
I am hoping and praying that I and all y’all OOS kids on CC are a part of that 3514 who are accepted. Please oh please let us in!!!
To run the numbers for IS students like @ImporTan, about 11,307 IS apps for about 4100*.78=3198 spots. With an IS yield of 60%, they likely will accept about 3198/.6=5330 IS applicants. 5330/11,307=47.1% acceptance rate.
UNC Freshman here - For the record, they said the same thing to us last year: that admissions would be delayed until the beginning of the next week. But we were notified the day after they announced that (which by coincidence was January 28!). Hope to see you all next year!
Shout out to J. Cole. NC native and birthday boy.
The UNC admissions twitter hasnt tweeted to anyone today their usual “Decisions will be out by the 31st”. Another indication that decisions will be out today.
