UNC Financial Aid

My daughter was accepted early decision to UNC-CH. Do they eventually let you know what sort of financial aid they have available? We can't make a decision until we see that decision! I think our EFC is 20K but since we are out of state, this barely covers the tuition! Can anyone give me some insight on this?

you probably mean early action lol. but anyway, UNC gives out its financial aid offers whenever they’re done making them. I just got mine last week so just hang in there. you’ll probably hear back sometime this week. With my package, my total tuiton came down to my exact EFC so they might do the same with you, or at least come close to matching it.

Wow, thank you. I am a little anxious right now, does anyone else have the same experience?

I’m on my phone otherwise I’d do some searches for you, but UNC promises to cover 100% of demonstrated need for all students through a combination of loans, work-study, and grants. There was another statistic that they posted on their website that said that about 35% of the aid package for the average student is loans.

Cubanmom: As I posted on another thread, They met our needs exactly the way they said. We will be paying our EFC and my S has a work-study and a very modest subsidized loan, the remainder was a grant. I have another S going to Miami and they didn’t even come close. UNC was awesome. I’m sure it will work for you. Good Luck.

Looking at post from last year, it seems that they ended up releasing some finaid decisions really late in april. I really hope that isnt the case this year.

does anyone know how the appeals process works?

If my EFC is around 15,000 (I live in California), how much, roughly, should I expect to pay per year at UNC?

I realize it’s hard to give an exact number (obviously :stuck_out_tongue: ) but a rough number would be nice.

UNC is really good about meeting your aid, so you can probably expect to pay around your EFC, maybe a little more. I wouldn’t expect more than 20,000 a year. You will probably expect around 5-6k in loans and the rest will probably be grants and work study.

However, this is completely out of my head from what I’ve heard from UNC and others, seeing as I didn’t get anything other than loans. But mainly just know that UNC meets all the need for the majority of students who qualify for financial aid.
