UNC or UVa

can someone please give an answer to this dilemma...

I am interested in business and like both UVa and UNC however, being from NY, i dont have the time or money to actually visit these schools and, again, being from the North, i do not know exactly what makes these schools different from each other...i have been told that both are very similar so i should only apply to one...i already have A LOT of school on my list so i have to cut one of these out...

which one is better...or at least what characterizes each one so i can pick

PS: i realize that i am posting on the UNC page here and i know that most of you want to go to UNC...all i ask is that responses not be biased...thansk a lot

I'm going to try not to be biased here and hope that other people can jump in and give you a more rounded opinion. I know there's a similar thread in the UVA forum, so you might want to look there as well.

Admissions: If it's the same as W+M, another VA state school, they accept about 30% out of state. UNC only accepts 18% out of state, due to state legislation, so admission's going to be pretty selective for each. However...I've heard/seen that the admission department at UVA is "screwed up," ie students that are obviously well qualified being denied, etc. You might want to check the ED acceptances in the UVA forum for more info about that.

The campuses are both big (UVA's a little smaller at around 12,500 undergrad as opposed to UNC's 15,000)...when I went to tour UVA, I didn't feel anything "special" about it. It just felt big and impersonal. Of course, that was probably because it was pouring, we'd already toured two other schools in two days, and the admissions guy that gave the presentation seemed to just be rambling on about nothing. To me, they did little to play up the whole "Mr. Jefferson's school" and the rich history of the campus and just showed selecive things. But then again, I've discovered I want a smaller school...so you may not feel that way. Charlottesville is a cool college town from what I understand, although we didn't really even bother to stay and look around for very long. But to me, Chapel Hill is just the quintessential college town. It's beautiful and North Campus is lined with big oaks and is almost always green...great weather. It's close to about anything else too, only eight miles from Durham and Duke, close to the Research Triangle Park where many leading companies have research facilities. It's also close to malls, entertainment, etc. If it's not happening in Chapel Hill, it can likely be found in either Durham or Raleigh, both close at hand. UNC students are really friendly too...and have the better athletics, lol ;)

Again, that's just my opinion...I hope others can chime in and give theirs.

go to unc! its cooler!

UVA is obviously better (not by much though), but for business, I would choose UNC.
