@justicebeaver I acc saw that post too on an earlier thread but was unsure about it. I think he was able to view when they reviewed his application (he said it was reviewed March 15th) after he actually got into UNC.
@Bettane123 - ty, feeling a bit better
@eddy504 i don’t think that the coronavirus will delay admissions at all as all submissions are done electronically and can be reviewed at home, which I believe is what they are doing. I’m assuming decisions may come out anywhere between April 3rd-10th with it heavily in favor of coming out on the 6th because that is when decisions came out last year (same day).
@Satanslovechild Sorry, I was unclear in my post. What I meant is that people who submitted materials (transcripts and whatnot) before the campus shutdowns in mid-march. If all materials were in by then you should get an April decision.
@mkmk29 ohh ok, that makes sense. thank you for your help!
If anyone is interested, A few days ago I went back through the UNC transfer threads over the last 5 years to see if I could find any correlation in when decisions are likely to be posted. What I found is that most decisions are either posted on a Thursday or Friday between 3 and 4pm ET.
2015 - Thursday April 9th - 1pm
2016 - Thursday April 14 - 4:10pm
2017 - Friday April 7th - 3:15pm
2018 - Friday April 6th - 3pm
2019 - Monday April 8th - 4pm
This year it looks like either Thursday April 9th, or Friday April 10th.
I have a feeling they will be this friday
@Starfoxx87 this is some good information. First of all I believe we will get an email saying that the portal will update in a few days or something along the lines of that. Only after we get that information will decisions be released I believe.
@Starfoxx87 great information! But if we’re going by previous patterns doesn’t it seem like Monday would be the most logical? Not necessarily the date but the day. Thursday = two years straight, Friday = two years straight, Monday = ???
That pattern definitely makes sense but last year people got emails almost a week before the decisions came out. So if it were to come out this Friday or Monday wouldn’t we have gotten emails by now? I’m starting to think that maybe next Thursday or Friday is becoming more likely
Also looking at common data set from last year for transfers entering fall of 2019. About 500 less people applied for transfer than previous years, boosting the transfer acceptance rate to nearly 50%, which is up from 35% in previous years. Just thought I’d share to make us feel better
@Lfriel that’s great news!! Where did you get this statistic? And what are your predictions for this year?
@mkmk29 So if you type in UNC Chapel Hill common data set into Google you can see the one for 2019-2020. If you scroll to page 14 you can see that 2,733 people applied for admission and 1,351 people were accepted, so roughly 49%~50% were accepted. So it appears that the more people that apply, say, over 3,000, the lower the acceptance rate is. Now I don’t know how many people applied last year and how many slots they have available in the sophomore and junior classes next year but on their website they claim to accept a third of transfers so I don’t think the number will go below 33%. I predict that the acceptance rate will be anywhere between 33% and 50%. UNC also has an extremely high yield as last year almost 62% of people admitted decided to enroll, so with this statistic I don’t know if they changed their acceptance numbers this year to reflect a different yield target. We shall wait and see!
- meant to say I don't know how many people applied this year, sorry!
Common data set link: https://oira.unc.edu/files/2020/03/CDS_2019-2020_20200302.pdf – seems like this was just posted March 2nd
If this thread is any indication, there may be substantially fewer transfer applications this year than last year. For the Fall 2019 UNC Transfer thread, by April the thread was already up to page 18. We’re at page 7, so much fewer people participating in the transfer thread for this year.
This is all speculation of course. It may mean nothing.
@chinamen i’ve been thinking the same thing
@chinamen that is a valid point. What’s more is that most people are home right now due to the current circumstances so you would think that even more people would be inclined to post here.
But in previous years there were a lot of comments from Dec-Feb too and this year there were barely any comments from Dec-Feb. I remember checking this in late January and I was shocked bc there were like 3 comments.
Very late to the thread but would really appreciate some feedback.
