Under what circumstances can i reschedule my final exam?

i have exams on the 12th and 14th and my last is on the 17th. i was wandering how serious your excuse has to be to take your exam on a different date. I'm flying back to korea in winter and ideally i would like to as soon as possible....so i was wandering if i could take the 17th exam earlier (maybe 13th) then i can fly back on the 15th. would something like that be possible or would my excuse have to be more serious. there isnt any real crucial reason for going back earlier...its just that then there's more time for me to spend in korea (havent been away from home this long)

I don’t think that would be an applicable excuse for rescheduling. I think it is normally only with a note from the student health center, an extreme family emergency, or three exams scheduled in a twenty four hour period that you can move an exam. It’s a big hassle for professors and you alike, and the school designs the exam schedule in the way it does (classes on certain days and times will have exams at a set day and time) to avoid conflicting schedules. You could always ask your professor, but I really don’t think he’ll do it.

Traveling is generally not an excusable reason.

Of course, maybe your professor is really cool and will let you change it anyway. Talk to him/her about it.

is it only the professor’s approval that i would need to sit the exam on a different day?? or would i need approval from the dean and professor both?

OP- You should have not taken the course if the finals schedule was going to conflict with travels. Your plane tickets are not finalized so don’t ask, you’ll be an object of annoyance to him for the next 2 months of class. Three days are not worth the hassle.
