is there a big crackdown at underage drinking at uva, or if ur let say a freshman is it still easy to get your hands on alcohol at parties

no, yes

.......

'Are you 21?'

I personally know 2 people that have been arrested for alcohol related events. These two people are first years and it appears fairly easy to gain access to alcohol, however, one of these people then passed out on a bench. When the roommate went to try to get this person back to the dorm, a police officer (not UVA) walked up. He asked the person who was trying to help "have you had anything to drink", to which the response was "yes". He then wanted to perform a breath-alyzer test, but the student refused, so since they had already said "yes", he wrote a ticket for underage alcohol consumption. The student on the bench also refused the breath test, but was charged with alcohol consumption, and being drunk in public. A lot of people I know, have fake ID's and go to bars.
To me, it just isn't worth it to risk having a police record, and also all that partying really messes with one's ability to keep up with academics. I don't know what the official UVA rules are, but the UVA police seem to just want to be sure that students are safe; i.e., they don't want physical injuries or God forbid, and alcohol related death. Fairly recently (last year or 2?), a visiting student from Cornell died at a UVA frat party--so I hear.
The CVL and Albemarle police are not as forgiving as the UVA police.

wasn't that cornell student incident related to the fourth year fifth too?

There is no big crackdown and yes, it is easy to get your hands on booze.

The Cornell student who died actually posted on CC and was visiting a friend at UVA for St. Patrick's day in 2006.

Great parties. Free alcohol.

A lot of 1st years get arrested, and since parties RARELY get busted you just have to learn the spots that cops camp out at for the walk back and just dont do anything stupid.

IDefineCool,
Will you please elaborate? Where do they camp out at? I'm not trouble, but nor am I looking for it.

stupidest thing to do=drive to bars, park in the corner parking lot, get blasted, and then try to drive out. cops pretty much stand at the exit waiting for that to happen.

You won't get arrested for drinking unless you do something really stupid and really obvious. Cops don't harass random people.
