Does going to a business school mean you can't get a second major from the primary school?

Ex. If I go to Mendoza at Notre Dame and majored in entrepreneurship would I be able to get a second major from Notre Dame that wasn't from the business school?

Do you have to apply separately to get into a schools business school, or is getting accepted into the father school enough?

Ex. Is applying to Notre Dame the same as applying to Mendoza? If I get into Notre Dame can I just choose to go to Mendoza?

Please explain. Thank you all.

Are your questions only about ND or generally? If only ND, you can get more info on that board. However – at ND, Mendoza B school is not gated and – someone correct me if I am wrong – I don’t believe they do direct admits. All students follow the First Year of Studies curriculum and then declare a B school major. Many students double major between Mendoza B school major and the College of Arts and Sciences.

Other B school programs work differently. At IU Bloomington, there are direct admits into the B school, and cross majoring outside the college is, I think, more difficult. At UW Madison, there are few direct admits and most freshman apply in the spring and are admitted over the summer, beginning sophomore year as a B school student.

The availability of double majors between two colleges within a university – the College of Business and another College, such as Arts and Letters – varies tremendously between schools. If you have a target list, you need to research the feasibility of double majors across two colleges at each target school. There is no single answer to how it works.
