I heard that at MIT, freshman 1st term grades are pass/no record, and 2nd term grades are A/B/C/no record. Although that's helpful for keeping the bad grades out during freshman year, does it mean that when applying to internships/other stuff for freshman summer (or UROPs, not exactly sure how those work) you more likely might need to send high school transcripts? Thanks.

Asking because I'm projecting a few B's senior spring, having never gotten one before in high school. :c

It’s also relatively unusual to be asked for your grades at all when applying for a UROP. You might be expected to have taken certain courses (some biology UROPs, for example, prefer that you have taken the biology department lab course 7.02), but generally you might be asked for a CV, not a transcript.

^ Yep, I’ve only ever given UROPs my resume. If you’re looking for a UROP as a frosh, you won’t even have a GPA to list. Of course, your resume should include some stuff from high school when you are a freshman - but you decide what :)
