Undergraduate Business (Finance) - NC State or VA Tech

Hey everyone,

I am posting this because I am trying to decide whether NC State or VA Tech has a better undergraduate business program. I would prefer Tech because it is in-state, but NC State gave me a great deal and I will be practically paying the same amount as in-state tuition.

I did get accepted into University of Wisconsin (my dream school), but it is simply too expensive :frowning: Anyways, I wanted to know which of these two schools you think is better. I did check Bloomberg and they rated NC State higher, but they do their rankings based off employers and internships. I can’t access US News undergraduate business rankings because I am not a member.

Let me know what you think. Thanks for the help!

bump!!!

I would imagine you would have good opportunities from either school. Virginia Tech has a strong alumni network and very good recruiting. You might look at cost and fit. Where do you feel more comfortable? Look at Virginia Tech Career Services website and their Post Grad Survey. You will see where some of their business grads are getting jobs. For instance, Accounting and Information Systems grads ended up at places like Deloitte, Ernst and Young, KPMG, and PWC. Finance majors went to places like Capital One, Deloitte, Ernst and Young, PWC. Business Information Technology grads went to places like Accenture, Deloitte, IBM, KPMG, Ernst and Young, PWC. Lots of opportunities in the DC area. NC State probably has similar info to look at. These really seem to be peer schools so you should be fine at either. Good luck with the decision.

Just anecdotal, but my sister graduated from Pamplin and has had a great career. She loves VT like nobody’s business and stays very involved with the school (a couple of decades later).

I don’t know as much about NC State, but can’t imagine you’d go wrong there either.

Seems like nc state would have s lot more businesses around for internships and jobs. VT is really isolated.

Virginia Tech kids in general have no problem getting internships or jobs. Recruiters come onto campus from many different companies. Virginia Tech’s “really isolated” location is not a problem as most kids would be working elsewhere anyway. Lots go to the DC area, for example.
