Hey everyone. I was recently admitted to VT as an engineering major and was wondering how easy it is for freshmen to become involved in undergraduate research.
Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

Son #2 is in the honors program and was able to participate in undergraduate research during his second semester. But most research projects, to be meaningful, are quite involved and extensive. He didn’t continue to pursue research his second year because of course loads and other opportunities.
Perspective from a recruiter: #1 GPA. Honors college - minimal impact, just means you did well in HS. #2 Summer internship/job. Undergrad research - minimal again. Get summer or co-op work with Google, NASA, NSA, etc. That’s what stands out.
