i see so many posts about being over qualified and waitlisted and it seems i am the only under qualified applicant. I don't understand why they didn't just reject me, waitlisting is probably the most painful outcome of all the college admission decisions

I feel your pain, but perhaps, the adcoms thought that you were not so "underqualified" as you call it. Maybe they saw through and thought Heck, this kid might really love us! :) Wish you the best.

what were your stats?

lol i got waitlisted with like a 3.1 UW gpa (everything else was good though)

well, yea

you love crabs?

heck yes i'm crab luva #1

i eat crabs all day everyday

here are my stats:
3.1UW GPA;
Top 5% of class (crazy private indepedent school);
800v 710m;
800ushist 750world hist 730 writing;
good essays;
good ECs;
great recommendations

i wrote my "get me off the waitlist" email template today. i'll polish it and specialize it and send it to WUSTL tomorrow. i have a feeling my template is going to get some heavy usage.

i feel underqualified too... looking at all these insane posts about crazy stats and waitlisting makes me thing next year i'll die. i have a 3.2 unweighted gpa and i'm only in the 84th percentile of a public high school... what happened to the really smart kids!

there is no such thing as overqualification. Thats just people deluding themselves. They simply didn't show enough interest or didn't seem to "fit" in the WashU persona.
