He just checked the portal. I guess you have to just keep checking!

My DD was accepted last night. We had checked the portal three hours prior and it stated “under review.” Did our obsessive check three hours later to find the easy to miss “Decision: Admit.” No email. Keep checking the portal, folks! DD is OOS, undeclared COLA.

Congrats. You can determine the amount based on the name of the scholarship

D22 was admitted, were OOS and she received the Trustees’ scholarship and a non-resident tuition grant. She was admitted into the biomedical science program and the honors program. I’m not sure if she’s interested in the honors program because I don’t know how rigorous the regular curriculum is with that major. I definitely don’t want her overwhelmed. We haven’t had the opportunity to visit campus yet since were in Ohio. She interested in med school so if anyone has any information on their program that would be great! Hoping we can maybe visit on an admitted student’s day.

My daughter was accepted yesterday OOS Earth Sciences major in College of Engineering and Physical Sciences with scholarship. She was accepted to UVM last week with a much higher scholarship but UNH is her top school. Merry Christmas everyone!

In which part of the portal (or screen) do you find out if you received a scholarship or tuition grant? My DD22 was just admitted two days ago via a check of her admissions page on the portal so hasn’t received any follow-up email/mail, but I’m wondering if there’s anything she can glean from her portal alone re: finances. Thx!

The merit scholarships they give out upon acceptance should be right in the portal. On my daughter’s is says Status: Decision made Decision: Admit then beneath that it says Merit Scholarship: and lists the scholarship by name. When they’ve awarded the actual financial aid, she’ll receive a notification with a link, and there may be additional scholarships awarded there as well. I hope this helps!

Congratulations! There is a unh parents FB page (there’s two this one is literally called unh parents – all lowercase) and people have mixed views on the honors program. It’s split between parents who think it’s great, and parents who think it’s extra work for not much of a reward. I told my daughter she can always try it, and if she doesn’t like it, she doesn’t have to continue with it.

Congrats!! They are working on expanding the honors program from what was stated at orientation this year. The recommendation is at least do it Freshman year as there are small classes for some of the core discovery classes and initial classes needed for some majors. There are options to do some honors within major in the junior and senior level courses. The honors classes are mostly symposium style with 15 to 20 kids. If you look in the course registration you can pull the honors classes and see some course sizes. For some of the lab sciences they may be in the same large general lecture, but have the option of an honors lab section.

My daughter also applied to both UVM and UNH, so wanted to ask what makes UNH her top school?

UVM recently cut their Geology major—I suspect that a student with an interest in the Earth Sciences now has to major in Env. Sci or Env. Engineering (and maybe even supplement those studies with a minor in Physics/Chemistry)

versus doing a direct Earth Sciences degree at UNH, a relatively comparable school.

Does anyone know if you need to do FAFSA for merit scholarships OOS?

Not for the ones you’re awarded at the time of admission (Trustee’s, Chancellor’s, Presidential, etc.). They’re awarded solely based on merit whether you’re IS or OOS.

thank you

Hey y’all!

A few weeks ago, I had to email an AO about an issue that I was having with the applicant portal—which was resolved, thankfully—but my AO also told me about when they expect decisions to be released!

To quote them, “As an early action applicant, you will receive a decision from us by mid-January, if not sooner.”

Just figured some of you may have wanted to know/or wanted further clarification.

Happy new year everyone! My son was accepted a few weeks ago and I was wondering if anyone had any opinion on dorms or locations that are better on campus? Thank you!

Congrats!

There is something for everyone with over 30 to choose from. There are Freshman only, themed live/learn communities on some floors or whole dorms, and dorms with suite style rooms with shared bathrooms. The campus is very walkable and all dorms are within a 10 minute walk of the center of campus. The rec center is beautiful and if that is something your kid may use often being close to that side might be nice.

The first year classes are all over campus, but if they know their major some dorms are closer to those main buildings.

Compared to other schools, UNH does a great job training their RAs and Hall directors. Very impressed.

Stoke is really the only one that there are complaints about- somehow still a party dorm.
