Freshmen are usually taking their gen eds but things change when they start taking courses in their major where they tend to meet more like minded people.
The nacac list of colleges that miscalculated yield will be published in about a week. There’ll be options for transfers.
I think it could go better, the same or worse.
I think that a discussion need to be had. Is it the school, major, culture, unrealistic expectations, just a really bad fit or other. Will changing the school make a difference? It is easy to say yes (which often is) but sometimes it could be no. Based on what you wrote it sound like she maded a serious effort and it didn’t work. Going back to a school she truly hates is not a good idea. Does she like anything about the school? How does she feel about the non social aspect.
Sometime later years can be better. Dorms are funny places. The personality and dorm experience is driven by the students. One dorm can be toxic and the next can be fun. Then there is the maturity factor. Upper class dorms can be very different.
My daughter made and lost friends all 4 four years. Some were toxic, some flakily and some were salt of the earth type. Never really found the BFF. Bottom line, it that most students are always open to new friends and freshmen friend often disappear. Later years can be a little easier as you get into your major course which give you a shared interest.
I say better now than in a year when some credits might not transfer. Can she do a formal (thru the school) gap kind of year off. This would give her time to reevaluate IF she wants to return or transfer somewhere else.
