Hello am a Freshman at Hofstra University and am really unhappy with this choice. I was expecting a good experience but it turned to be the opposite. I know I want to transfer already the environment and the people don't seem to click with me. The academics seems to not be on my level of interest as I want to be challenged in courses I want to take. I been looking at other schools to transfer but my SAT are way below average since I came from a educational disadvantage area. I recently applied to Fordham but doubt I would get admission for the Spring since my SAT are horrible, and my High School is not really that bad.

I thought of just going to a community college for the spring semester and get my rest of my freshman year done there and reapply to Fordham for the FALL 2012 semester. Am currently taking 15 credits at Hofstra and have 4 college credits from some summer college program I took during my Junior year. I would have 19 credits by the end of this semester. I need at least 30 to transfer without my SAT scores.

1 - I’d suggest giving Hofstra and its people more of a chance. Reach out, join a club or study group, visit a prof’s office hour.

2 - If all it takes to transfer without SAT scores is 30 credits, and you can’t learn to like Hofstra, community college would be a good option for spring.

3 - In either case, do your best to get good grades to keep your options open.

However, if you have a high GPA at Hofstra (and high grades in the other college level courses you took previously), I seriously doubt that your test scores will hurt you much in admissions. So apply to others that require the test scores anyway. It’s worth a shot.

Also, do get involved at Hofstra in terms of clubs, community service since you need to show some involvement on applications. You may end up changing your mind, who knows, but either way you need to get more involved. Good luck!!!
