So, have most people run up against the fact that a LOT (read: MOST) of their schools will only assign you to a particular day, but not a time (one school only let you choose the location, not even the specific day!)? They're saying get back to us in a MONTH or so with the particular time.

Obviously this is likely to result in about a million phone calls to resolve conflicts! Are they generally understanding, or do they get upset if you don't accept the time they've assigned you? I know CCM charges a $50 fee if you need to change it. Do other schools do this? We haven't run across any but D's only applying to so many schools!

I SURE wish they all did it like Point Park! You pick your day AND your time right there on the website and it's done! LOVE IT! It seems like it would be an awful lot easier for everyone, (the schools included) if they all did it that way. I wonder why they don't.

Anyone have any insight as to why? I assume there's a reason that makes perfect sense if you understand it from their perspective.

My d did Chicago Unifieds last year, and we were never charged to change times. We planned ahead to fit 2-3 into each day and kept our fingers crossed. Then when we could request times, we called and folks were lovely. We just had a couple of overlaps that had to be changed. I couldn’t believe how nice everyone was as I also assumed they must be getting hundreds of calls!

I remember I called Penn state for an audition time last year - and I was thinking to myself - “Is that it? That was ridiculously easy!!” I told the person on the phone how much I appreciated that I could call and book the time and place nice and early. Tracy - I think that you are on track for getting all of your audition times - we also had a very complicated schedule for the unifieds but started the process early enough to have a master calender and book times for each audition. I only had to make 1 change but it was still early enough in the process that all times were not taken. A lot of my stress was related to schools that took their time in giving me appointment times. At the Unifieds we had a time crunch between CMU and Otterbein - the CMU audition can take the entire half day (4 hours?). After her CMU vocal audition - we had to get in a cab and head to another hotel to do her Otterbein audition (thankfully running on time) - then head back to the first hotel to finish her acting for CMU.

Personally, I didnt have much trouble with it. Most let you pick at the very least the day, and then even if they schedule it for you it is quite unlikely that it will overlap. And once you get there the schedules seem to go to hell anyway. School A will be running 2 hours ahead and School B will be 90 minutes behind. Virtually none of mine were at the exact time scheduled, and one of them ended up being a day early because I saw that nobody was waiting to go in and I asked if I could take the slot. I did 3-4 auditions a day, and the smallest amount of time between was half an hour, but it didnt cause me any problems.

Also, they will let you reschedule over the next few months. And if a place charges to do that, schedule your other schools around that time. Good luck!

One good trick if the schools are running behind or ahead, like JakeRoku said, is be sure to go and check in LONG before your scheduled audition time. That way, the person doing registration at the individual school will get to know you as a responsible person–which is good! Sometimes the department heads will want to know how someone acts when they’re not on the spot, and it can make a big difference. Also, if your audition times do get conflicted, they hopefully will be more willing to be flexible if you checked in and let them know what’s going on with your schedule.

^^^^^^ Good advice. The earlier you get there the easier it is to change things around.

In Boco’s case there are two dance calls usually 10AM and 2PM. If your audition time is before 9:45 or between 12PM and 2PM you can choose your dance time. The dance times are assigned during check in.

It is also possible to schedule your dance audition for the following day. Good luck to all.
