So after being assigned to a Foothill double (I was most likely close to dead last in the lottery considering it wasn't listed as any of my choices) I appealed and today was given the option to transfer to a unit 2 triple.

Before I accept this offer, I want to be totally sure it's the best decision. I know unit 2 is relatively far away, and triples are probably really cramped, but I think it'll be a much better experience than living in Foothill. I plan on being an English/History major, so being housed right near the engineering school isn't appealing at all. Foothill seems beautiful, and much bigger and more comfortable, but I get the feeling I'll have a much better social experience living in Unit 2 and that it'll be easier for me to meet people.

To be honest, I like Foothill a lot. I would much prefer that to any triple. If we were talking about doubles, I would probably pick any unit over Foothill…but I just hate triples.

How did you hear back from them? I put my name on the transfer waitlist a few weeks ago and haven’t heard back yet…You contacted them today and immediately got an offer?

Stay in Foothill unless it is too expensive for you.

Life will be much more comfortable in a Foothill double.
Also, Foothill will be much closer to your classes than Unit 2 even for humanities majors. Getting from Unit 2 to the Dwinelle/Wheeler/Sproul area will be much longer than getting there from Foothill.

For pretty much everywhere on campus, Foothill beats Unit 2 in the distance category.

I jokingly call Foothill “Foothell” because I hate it so much. My boyfriend lived there and it was such a pain to walk all the way up there. He also didn’t really have “floormates” which meant he made no friends in his living arrangements, and Foothill seems pretty boring to me. Unit 2’s rooms are really nice, and I think it’s a lot more convenient, and I didn’t mind having a triple this past year. I don’t think any of my floormates did. You adapt.

Foothill is on the hill close to the math and engin. classes. But it’s a pain in the butt to walk up that hill. Which is why I am going to U1 next semester. Yay for flatland.

I loved my triple. I thought it was always nice to have a 3rd person who balances things out. Anyway, as mentioned, it’s what you make out of and how much you adapt.

Hey I lived in both now.
Foothill - easily 10x more comfortable than triple. Is it a bit less social? Yes and no. It’s definitely a bit more strict about…err illegal substances and they do this annoying RA check every night. However, if you per chance get good floormates, it’s easily just as social although not as loud as a unit. My floormates were mainly engineers, but they definitely knew how to have a good time ;). Regarding classes, don’t worry about the location. It’s always going to be a brisk paced walk unless you’re at U3. The only bad thing is the uphill climb going back to FH. It’s also more expensive and you can hope they changed the DC so as to not rip you off.
U2 triple - As if taking a chance on one roommate wasn’t risky, now you double the risk. My experience was one roommate was good and the other roommate basically only took one shower a week and literally only went to class and back and then watched TV for the rest of the day. (Some rooms though, all of them worked out fine, although these were mainly the girls triples…discrepancy?) Floor definitely gets louder due to having so many kids not only on one floor, but in one building. Floor parties are easier to hold since RAs are non-existent (seriously only saw my RA once…at the beginning of the school year). Be aware though, there’s still some floors that are deathly silent. Room-wise, a triple felt a little squeezed to me. Maybe it’s because I always had one roommate there, but I just felt like I had no room to move. Distance - again don’t worry about it.
tl;dr? If you want a little bit more social life, but are willing to sacrifice some space, go with the triple. If you want a little more space, but are willing to sacrifice some social life, go with FH. Although in the end, it all depends on who you’re paired up with and how your floor is.

I got a foothill double for my room assignment. I’m from Idaho and I didn’t know it was known as the “anti-social” dorm. I picked it because it was close to my engineering classes. Darn lol but I"m sure if I’m nice and jovial, I’ll hopefully have some floormates. They all can’t be antisocial since I met some at CalSO that seemed really cool.
