Unit 2??

What are advantages/ disadvantages to Unit 2?

Looks like I'll be heading there next Fall-- not looking forward to the fact that it's the farthest away from campus out of the other units..

It’s really not much farther than the other two units… You’ll probably get stuck walking all the way across campus for class anyways. Two blocks doesn’t make a huge difference when you’re already walking 15 minutes to class.

My kid is there, he’s stoked. I think his first choice was Unit 1 for location, but 2 was fine with him. A block further, no big whoop. Maybe you’ll be his roommate!

Unit 2 also

Got a triple
Suckss

I lived in a unit 2 triple my freshman year, a two block difference is nothing. All the units are pretty much the exact same. Do they all suck? Yes. But it was an experience and I probably wouldn’t change it if I could.

I just finished my freshman year in Unit 2. It really isn’t that far from campus, it may seem intimidating if you look at a map but it’s not bad at all. In my current apartment I have to walk a good 30 minutes just to get to the edge of Sproul, so I’ll be missing the luxury that living in Unit 2 was (as far as distance).

It’s close to Crossroads, which doesn’t have great food but it’s convenience over quality. Right next to People’s Park which might scare some people initially, but really as long as you stay away from it at night it’s no big deal. It smells awful too.

This may be specific to just the Units in general, but I hated how sound was amplified in the courtyard. Drunk people coming back at like 1 or 2 am were incredibly annoying, especially since I liked to keep my window open at night. Even with the window closed it was still loud.

One of the biggest concerns though for future Unit 2 dwellers are BEDBUGS. Seriously, Unit 2 has been plagued by them. They probably won’t tell you when you move in but you should be on the look out for them when you get there. We had a problem in Girffiths Hall nearly all year. I think 3 or 4 floors had at least a couple cases of bedbugs, my room included :frowning: I believe some people in Cunningham also had bedbugs, possibly Unit 1 as well. I got tiny bites on my arms from them, but nearly 30% of people don’t show bites at all. Tell your RA immediately if you think you have them, and they should call the pest company who’ll have dogs check your room. It’s apparently $500 just to bring the dogs in, but you’re already paying an arm and a leg to live in mediocre housing so they shouldn’t complain.

Overall, I enjoyed my experience in Unit 2, but it really depends on the attitude you go into it with and making the most of what you’re given. It’s not glamorous, but it was sufficient and the friends I made while staying there were worth putting up with the not-so-pleasant people, gross bathrooms, and overall lack of privacy.

thank you that was super helpful!

Uh oh… Bedbugs! Noooooooooooo
I’m totally afraid of bugs. Especially the kind you can’t really see…
