I am wondering about applying to the Navel Accademy, namely what math class to take at my local University, while I go through the Navel application. I took AP and Honors everything in high school and obtained enough college credits that my university administration councilor said I do not have to take math for any degree they offer, this includes calculus, unless I wanted to re-take and pay for the same class I already took. I know I would have to retake math if accepted into the Accademy and the Accademy would like recommendations from m the math and English departments. However, is there a way that I do not have to take calculus at my local university, when there is no need, only to turn around and take calculus again at the Accademy?
From my nephew’s experience, high school credits didn’t matter - AP, Honors, whatever. His class started with a clean slate and had a fairly regimented course plan.
Good luck (and check your spelling. It’s the Naval Academy)
If you “transfer” in you will still be a 4th class Midshipman (Plebe). That doesn’t mean you will have to take the exact same classes as every other Plebe. If you already have college credits, they will most likely transfer, and you will be placed in more advanced classes.
Directly from their website, under Course Requirements - Plebe Year:
Some midshipmen, on the basis of college-level work done elsewhere, may qualify to validate or place out of one or more of these or other, more advanced, courses. Validation credit is awarded only after a test and/or interview on the subject matter administered at the Naval Academy.
So find a math class that interests you, or that will apply to your eventual intended major at the Naval Academy or elsewhere. Remember that you are not guaranteed a spot at the Naval Academy, so don’t put all your eggs in that one basket.
