Units in Community College: The More, The Better?

Is it true that having more units would improve your chances of successfully transferring? For instance, I'm planning on taking supplementary classes to gain more units, but I'm not sure as to whether or not that would boost my chances. The nature of such classes is that of a workshop session; all you have to do is show up. You'll earn an extra unit just for showing up. How would this look in the eyes of an admissions officer?

I think so; unless more credit hours lower your GPA.

Well be careful, you want to make sure your classes transfer to your desired college. More units doesn’t give you a better chance of transfer admission. Also, you get absolutely no benefit by taking “filler” courses in terms of chances of admission.

In CA, there is a maximum number of cc units that can transfer to UCs and CSUs. (I think it’s 60 units.) You are better off taking relevant classes, rather than fluff. But if you would be taking the same number of core classes and adding extra units on top of that, then 40 units + fluff looks better than just 40 units.
