Nicest hotels closest to U of M campus?
Residence Inn on Huron is brand new (10 min walk) . Boardwalk location is old. Also try
‘the Graduate’ hotel (2 min walk) . For a classic hotel Michigan League (on campus). Bell tower hotel (on campus) is also nice, but not as nice as the others.
The Bell Tower Hotel on Thayer street, right in the heart of campus.
Seconding Bell Tower.
Has anyone stayed at the Kensington? The hotels mentioned above do not have suites that wlll accommodate our family
To be honest, I had never even heard of that and I’ve lived around here for most of my life.
Anyway, I looked it up and it’s pretty far off campus. You can take buses (not sure what the routes are like down there) but if you plan on driving to campus, know that parking at U of M absolutely sucks- especially if you need handicapped parking.
That’s strange. U of M has them listed as a hotel. I think it is a 5 min drive to campus. I will verify tomorrow when I call the hotel. Thanks for the message.
Kensington seems nice.
The Kensington rooms are hotel average but they have a nice brunch. It is located near Briarwood. You can take the city bus in or drive. It is not a 5 min drive to campus, more like 25 when you include finding a place to park. Ann Arbor streets are torn up near campus and downtown including Division, Ashley, and N. University. Today it took me an extra 20 min to get into town - 35 min to go 3 miles - not even in rush hour.
There are about 5 or 6 hotels near Briarwood - Sheraton 4 points, Residence Inn, Fairfield Inn. HI Express, and a Motel 6 on the other side of I-94. Google and apple maps have the bus schedules built in. It’s $1.50 for adults, $0.75 for kids under 18. You can look at theride dot org web site for more complete information.
I would strongly suggest that you stay on campus (or at the downtown residence inn and avoid the traffic and parking hassles. There are also many B&B’s and private places for rent.
Thank you! I will check again!
There is in my opinion no perfect choice. Here are the Pros and cons. YMMV
Graduate Hotel: Pro: fantastic location. Just fantastic. Con: Very expensive, Bathrooms are tiny with almost no room for your stuff, super dark and have a weird double door that does not fully close, which means you are guaranteed to wake up entire room if you use in middle of night or early in morning.
Bell Tower: Pro : amazing location. Con: some rooms are very small and have a step up to very small bathroom that is dangerous at night. They do not use comforters on the beds and instead use only sheets with the reason being that you can’t clean a comforter. Apparently they have never heard of duvet covers and high heat cleaning that top hotels use.
Residence Inn Pro: Nice rooms. Decent location but con: expensive and location is getting just far enough away that you may need you car anyway which defeats whole purpose. Somewhat " seedy" location near bus station
Hilton Garden Inn. Pro. Nice rooms. Number one on trip advisor and staff works hard to keep it that way with great service. Near mall and restaurants. Con. Must drive to campus.
Other mall hotels: all ok. Not as nice as Hilton in my opinion.
Sheraton located on other side of road from mall. Pro: nice full service hotel. Con: location even worse than mall hotels.
Admin: this thread might be more helpful if the title noted it was about hotels. Many people look for that info.
