So guys, I've waitlisted at UCSD and accepted at University of Minnesota. I will pursue an economics major. I am also from Brazil, so the location doesn't really matter to me.

If I get accepted from the waitlist at UCSD, should I change from Univ. of Minnesota to UCSD? In which one the chances of me having a successful career is greater? Does the diference in price between them is really worth it (univ. of minnesota would be 27-30k a year and UCSD 44k I believe)?

At the most general level, both appear to have similar level of reputation in economics, so it may not be worth the price difference purely based on that (and UCSD is likely more than $44,000 per year).

For career prospects, you can ask the career centers who comes recruiting for students in your major. If you are not a US citizen or permanent resident, you may want to find out if either school has a better reputation among employers in countries where you can easily work.

You may want to check course offerings and faculty research interests at each school’s economics department to see if the strength in subareas of economics at one matches your interests better. There are also non-academic factors like weather, social environment, etc. that you may want to ask on the school-specific forums.

UCSD may be slightly better than the University of Minnesota but unless your family is incredibly wealthy there’s no way it’s worth an extra $20,0000-30,000 per year so I think Minnesota is the obvious choice even if the winters are rough.

I live in the south of Brazil, here the weather goes down to 32 F more or less. Last year I did an exchange program to USA in Texas and it got down to 19-23 F Quite harsh but I liked it

I lived in Minneapolis for over 5 years. Every winter the temperatures would drop to -30 F (-35 C) for at least 5 days. Mid-January can be and is brutal.
