A few months ago I was accepted into the university of Alabama and automatically offered the UA scholars scholarship... Do I need to fill out an application still or do I jsut need to accept/confirm the offer????

If you can, fill out the scholarship app. Don’t worry about listing all awards, ECs, etc, since you already qualify for the scholarship.

The app doesn’t take long. If you can’t access the scholarship app anymore (it was due Dec 1), then send an email to scholarships@ua.edu, give your CWID, tell them that you applied and was offered UA Scholars and ask what you still need to do.

Is the scholarship offer showing up on MyBama for you to accept?

What is your major?

Scholarship and aid that come with your offer letter are typically automatic…you get it if you go.

Sometimes they are contingent on certian things, for example, that you are admitted as an honors student.

I would contact the school if you have any questions. And congats.

My D received a letter at late Nov. and was awarded a Presidential Scholarship. It said “…You will receive a confirmation letter regarding your scholarship offer(s) in mid-March. You will confirm receipt of your scholarship when you enroll at UA as a first time freshman for the academic year 2013 - 2014”.

I did not recall she applied to any scholarships, it is automatic, maybe it is merit based.

Like others suggest, email scholarships@ua.edu for any questions.

Hmmm… Check mybama, but it does not show any scholarship. D has already accepted and I have paid the enrollment fee. Time to email for an answer.

Sometimes Bama sends the scholarship letters out without the student having submitted the scholarship app. Supposedly, you’re supposed to submit the scholarship app, but it looks like Bama has gone ahead and awarded those scholarships because they are “assured for stats” (which is different from automatic).

However, Bama may have incorporated part of its scholarship app into the main school app. Do you recall if it did?

Simon…it really shouldn’t show a scholarship yet. The official offer will come in a few weeks, and then your child will be able to accept it.

I read the acceptable later and it just reads that I will be sent a letter confirming in in mid-march so doesn’t look like a need for a new scholarship application.

Any idea if a final transcript is required or only the one sent with initial app

*acceptance letter

Yes, you will have to send a final transcript.

Do you remember the Bama app? I vaguely remember that this year there was a slight change to the app which included a shorter version of the scholarship app.

Yes there was a section of questions that were specifically for scholarships I believe.

Is the final transcript just a formality? I hate to say it but I’m trying to check out from school but I’m nervous about certain things, (i.e. Grades dropping and losing my scholarship as a result)

I have not officially confirmed my enrollment by the way

You have to send your transcript.

your scholarship was based on test scores and your GPA from grades 9-11. Senior grades aren’t used.

How bad are your grades dropping for senior year? You need to keep your senioritis in check.

I have one or two C’s and all B’s but I’m just the type of person to get anxious about grades

You won’t lose your Bama scholarship because of those senior year grades, but you should try to do better.

Also, keep in mind that you need to keep your grades up while at Bama to keep your scholarship.

Bama requires a 3.0 GPA at the end of a school year, so when planning your semester schedule, try to balance harder classes with less-demanding classes. And if you’re not a natural early riser, avoid 8 am classes as a frosh. ;)

Is the “final transcript” = senior year mid-year transcript? thanks.

No. Final transcript is exactly as it sounds…it’s the final transcript at your school…which will be after senior year is complete and final grades are received.

Bama doesn’t require a mid year transcript.

Thanks mom2collegekids.

Just got email reply about scholarship not shown up on mybama :
"she will not see it on her account until she officially enrolls at UA and is registered for classes.
"
"She will not be officially enrolled until she signs up for classes this summer at orientation. "

The email is talking about the billing account. Once the student attends Bama Bound in the summer and registers for classes, then soon after, the scholarship amount shows up as a deposit into her billing acct.

Sometime around March, your child’s scholarship official award will come by mail. that will have to be accepted. I don’t remember if that gets accepted on MyBama as well. If it does, then it will show up in another area (not the billing area) and the student “accepts” the award along with any other awards (Pell, loans, work study, etc) that the student might be given.

I hope this makes sense ~ for the UA Scholars scholarship, does it pay for 2/3 of the total tuition amount, or 2/3 of the OUT OF STATE tuition, meaning the difference between the instate and out of state tuition? Thanks for your help!

It pays for 2/3 of the ENTIRE tuition amount. So, if the total tuition for an OOS student is $24k, then it pays $16k per year.

I have just done the undergraduate application online at https://mybama.ua.edu/apply.html and went through the money transaction and everything but I have no idea what to do next.

To complete the scholarship form, they require me to have CWID which I can’t find anywhere in my mail box. Or do I have to wait for my application to be processed (says so when i logged in; “This Web application is complete but has not yet been processed.”) to actually get one?

One more question, coming from a SEA country (Myanmar), I had to take the GCE O Levels as a replacement for high school since our high school scores aren’t internationally recognized.
I was wondering if I could convert my O level scores to a 4.0 scale GPA with A=4 and B=3.
My scores were 4A’s and 1B. I was one mark away to getting an A for english so would that count as a B+? my SAT verbal + math was 1340
Thanks in advance!
