gradschool at UBC

i'm just wondering if anyone has any info on the UBC for grad study, or on Vancouver as a place to live for the same? i'm a snowboarder, currently being a bum in Fernie BC and want to do my grad school someone where i can mix both my passions...(i study english)
the only thing is that i've been offered a full scholarship to Duke for this Sept so applying to UBC would mean turning that down and hoping that i would in fact get into UBC for the following year.

help!

Snow snow n more snow

thats all i havta say.

Vancouver is an awesome city to live in... and uncrushable is wrong about the snow. Vancouver has way more rain. Of course there is snow in Whistler, but not so much in Vancouver.

The one major plus about going to Vancouver (I think) would be that the Olympics will be there in 2010... if you're into that (since you are a snowboarder), it would be pretty damn anwesome.

Yeah, i agree with Cowgirlatheart. Vancouver doesn't snow all that much (only once to twice every year?) During the winter times, it rains like hell and the rain makes you down as hell as well.

If you like snowboarding, there are lots of mountains you can go snowboarding on. The best is of course, Whistler. The closer ones include Cypress, Gross (sp?) and some others. I am not really keen on snowboarding so I don't know too much info on that subject.

As for UBC: it is a great school. Very beautiful campus but I don't think it is as spectacular as Duke. I would rather choose Duke over UBC but maybe that's just me.

Have fun wherever you decide to go. =)

Dude, GO TO DUKE.

I won't even hesitate about that since duke's been ranked the fifth among US universities, even better than Stanford, Cornell, Brown, Columbia and a whole bunch of other world-renowned universities.

Duke offered you scholarships? God that's really really rare since duke usually has a VERY LIMITED funding for internationals. Duke will definitely make you feel the same as going to harvard.

Although I really love vancouver as a city, UBC just can't be a match with world-class institutions like duke. The most important thing is that at duke, you'll find yourself immersed into a highly intellectual/social environment that differs itself from other "average outstanding" institutions like UBC.

Besides, I am pretty sure that there'd be a much larger/diverse pool of opportunities in Eastern USA than here in the rather laid-back western canada. For me, I'd just like to travel around, meet new challenges, and dwell in new environments that're beyond my expectations.
