This is not the same for american students - you should find their US guide. Only 1 yr of each required for americans. The requirements are different depending on where you are from and what system you studied under. Your location is not listed so I cannot find that for you.....

all these canadian uni.s only need their froms to be filled and school reprts to be sent..
no essays, no pre-apps, recommendation letters, fin. aid forms etc??

It differs. Ontario has an online application for all its universities, then each schools says what it needs (like transcripts). I think UBC is a lot more harder and morel iike applyin' to American schools cause it asks for an essay askin' why you wanna go to UBC. And if you wanna go into co-op it also asks for some additional form. (I was wonderin' whether to apply there for biotech)

American physics and chemistry is different from that of the Canadian curriculum. For example, when I took the SAT II Chemistry exam, it covered things that was totally not even MENTIONED in the regular grade 12 Chemistry classes. Thank goodness I took AP Chem though. So, 1 year is physics in the states is equitable to 2 years of physics in Canada.

As a Canadian, UBC is not hard to get into. Most, if not all, B students will gain acceptance if they choose to endure the rigour of a UBC education. But finishing is the hard part, not gaining admittance. Most top Canadian schools are very easy to get into if you have the right credentials (mainly good grades).

BlissfulAngst, I'll have you note that education being a provincial jurisdiction, it is unreasonable to extend the comparison between BC and US education to the rest of Canada vs US.

Vancouver is pretty diverse. Our main industry is tourism, and it's a pretty laid-back easy going town. As for UBC, you should have a pretty eclectic mix of students. It's also incredibly beautiful, especially in awesome.

However, in Vancouver there are A LOT OF asians. A LOT A LOT A LOT. But at UBC, the language skill wont be compensated due to the high population of Asians. No worries.

I know that scholarships into UBC are PRETTY Competitive if you're an international student. For regular Canadian kids, a GPA of 95%+ gets you only 4K (solely based on academics). However, I do know that UBC has one or two MAJOR entrance scholarships up for grabs for internationals. so you can probably check it out on their website. sorry.

I actually have no idea for Waterloo, because I'm not applying there. However, it is pretty awesome in terms of compsci, engineering, mathematics, etc. It is one of the top 5 Universities in Canada.

You'll probably have to look into their website for this one. Sorry! =(. If you have any questions about UBC, I can help you out though.

No, that was a glitch in the forums. To fix it they had to use the saved threads from before the problem, so they lost about 2 days worth of everyone's posts between the 18th and 19th of January.
