Essays: (i kind of integrated the 4 topics below into my two essays)
1. when i was a freshman my parents got in an accident and i had to start taking care of my whole family. what i mean is that my chores got tripled, i needed to help my parents move through the house, and i had to walk my bro to school before i went. My school and his school are in 2 opposte directions.
2. i also wrote about how the envioronment i grew up in has shaped me to be a strong perservering leader and how people see me as a leader not because of my large frame ( i am 6'4) but because of the attidude i have when i am in the room.
3. how my parents accident coupled with my volunteering at the hospital has changed my outlook on life and how i found my true calling which is medicine because God has blessed me with intelligence and lots of empathy towards the needy and weak.
4. i also included in my essay a great quote from one of a famous surgeon (i am drawing a blank on his name right now) but it said " i was never the smartest in med school, but what i lacked in ability i made up with through discipline." i think this quote really applies to me and i explained why.

yes!!! you have a great chance just get your gpa up a little.

bump 10 char

dude let me tell you one thing. most people on CC are overachievers.

my friend got into UCD and UCSB Santa Barbara with a 3.7 weighted (2 ap’s) and a 1800 sat. and about the same EC’s as you

Just maintain everything and your spot is safe.

and maybe go for ELC

I’d say very good chance at all, except for maybe UCSD which I’d consider a reach.

The only thing that makes me weary is that fact that most of the UCs have been rejecting/waitlisting many qualified applicants like you this year because of budget cuts and crap. But you’re definitely a strong contender.

the main school im focused on is UC Davis, in term of percent what are my chances? 60%? 70%? 80%+?

For UC Davis, your chance I would say is about ~65%. Your GPA may bring you down just a bit, but UC Davis is on the lower end of the UCs, and your ECs and SAT score are fantastic for an applicant of UCD. If you are in-state and you’re top 4% at your school, you may get ELC, which would basically guarantee you to admission to all of the lower UCs and a really great chance at the higher-end UCs.

jenniOz: sadly i dont think im going to make ELC

bump 10char

bump 10char

No need to bump alot! :P

UC Davis-you should be in. Hell, I got into UCD will an 1810 SAT, 3.8 W/3.4 UW. (and with EC’s a bit similar to yours, in terms of involvement and variety.)

UCSD-semi-semi-semi reach.

UCSB-in

UCI-should be able to get in.

ELC’s only come from UCI, UCSB, UCD, UCR, UCM, UCSC.

Sadly, I really don’t know if you will be able to gain ELC. . .

improve your GPA while you can.

hairylemon: i have 2 questions. 1, did you get into UCSD? how big of a difference while it make if i make ELC or not? because i highly doubt ill make ELC
