University of California

Hey guys! In honor of the deadline approaching, I though I'd start a thread.

I have a 3.63 GPA (~4.1 weighted I believe) and have pretty good extra curriculars.

JV soccer as a freshman, select soccer, treasurer for animal club, camp counselor, member of several clubs.

I applied to UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC Davis, and UCSD. My dream school is UCB. What are my chaces?

I forgot to mention, I have a 33 ACT, 700 Math 2, and 740 chem.

Here is the UC GPA Calculator: <a href=“GPA Calculator for the University of California – RogerHub”>http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/</a>
Depending upon how many honors credits you get for the calculator, your UC GPA can be 0.2-0.4 higher than unweighted.

Based on your above Stats:
UCB/UCLA: High Match/Low Reach
UCSD: High Match
UCD: Match

Thanks so much! It showed my UC gpa to be 3.75. Does this change anything regarding my matches?

It is a little low for top UCs. Please make sure you apply to some safety schools. You UC GPA is more important than your test scores.

I took 5 AP classes junior and senior year. Do you know how much they take rigor into account?

What is your intended major? If it is not one of those impacted majors then you might have a better chances. The problem is that UCs are very much into GPA. Even with the rigorous schedule they want to see high UC GPA.

I applied into a bio major in the college of Letters and Science

Biology is very competitive at most UC’s, so you need to have above average Stats. Your UC GPA is low for the UC’s although your test scores are above average. UC’s tend to be GPA focused, so I would probably include UCSC and UCR in your applications. The Mid-tiers could go either way with a less than 4.0 UC GPA and UCB/UCLA are low reaches.

this is a bit of a stupid question lol but would they take into consideration that my brother goes to UCB?

UC’s do not consider legacy.

Here is what posters reported last April for Berkeley:
<a href=“Berkeley Frosh Class of 2018 decision summary - #10 by ucbalumnus - University of California - Berkeley - College Confidential Forums”>Berkeley Frosh Class of 2018 decision summary - #10 by ucbalumnus - University of California - Berkeley - College Confidential Forums;

What the people above did not tell you is that Cal and UCLA do not cap your UC GPA. In other words, the freshman profile’s of Cal and UCLA use uncapped UC GPA’s. You will get 10 bonus points just for your 5 AP classes (granted that you passed them with a C or better) and more if you have taken UC approved honors courses.
