"We require either the SAT or the ACT, but we do not require or recommend any SAT II subject tests.

Students sometimes take standardized tests more than once to see if they can increase their scores. The University of Chicago will always use your highest scores when making admissions decisionswe take the highest scores from each section of the SAT and the highest composite of the ACT."

^^^ Are they saying that they superscore SAT I and that U of Chicago does not require SAT II's? This seems a bit strange for such a prestigious college.

Am I missing something or reading something not for Undergrad. admissions?

It is for undergrad admission alright. Just because it is not required does not mean that you should not do them. Think of the competition, if it was between you and someone who did take a few SAT II's and did well, who do you think would get the spot?

Also from what I am reading they do superscore the SAT.

i would still take them anyways...they might not ask for them but if u manage to get 700 on a couple SAT IIs it certainly wont hurt your application.

well, it says they do not even recommend sat2s..can't see how they could be a benefit...it would be a factor if they didn't require them but recommended...but that is not what it says.

You will likely need SATIIs for other schools you will apply to so you should probably plan on taking at least 2 (I think three are required by a few schools as well).

That said, there are many schools that accept the ACT with writing as the only requirment. No additional SAT IIs required (Yale is one) so U Chicago may not be as unusual as you think in its standardized testing requirements.

It is confusing. ACT with writing, SAT, SAT II, SAT II in different areas....superscore...tests not required at all...wow! What my D did Junior year was to make a list of some schools she was likely to apply to and prepare a list of their testing requirements. She then planned her testing accordingly. For example, when she discovered that none of her schools requried 3 SAT IIs she only took 2. She spent time studying for an AP test instead. Your generation has WAY too much testing...maybe U Chicago understands that and doesn't want to "feed the ACT/SAT beast"....Good luck!

Chicago has long been exactly the way it says it is -- supercore SAT, not so the ACT, and SAT IIs are not even recommended. It never latched on to the hype that everyone needs more tests to be admitted to college. As to your test score, be aware that in order of importance for admission it is grades and difficulty of schedule, essays, ECs, personality (for essays, ECs and personalty, they are looking for those whom they believe are ideal UChicago candidates) and test scores are then simply considered but not given major importance.
